Thats another story Shoe, and actually a very interesting one, cause science cant prove so far what is obviously a "silent communication" between thinking brains. It has been observed with animals too.

For example apes in new guinea (more precice 1 ape mom at first) started digging out a root of a plant as food the apes there never ate before. Soon after that all apes there did that and added it as a food source to their meals. So far that makes totally sence.

Two weeks after that apes some thousand kilometers away from the same kind all started digging out that root for food in the exact same way those apes in new guinea did.

Thats really some interesting stuff as it throws another light on the "it was time for the invention" explanation for technology being developed by different people in different parts of the world.

The first sub capable of independent movement was the Turtle, invented and developed and used to sink a ship by the USA.

The internet is based on ARPANET, created and invented here in the USA.

The first Microprocessor also in the USA.

The moving assembly line, allowing quick and cheap manufacturing, the USA.

The modern tank has more in common with a long gun Sherman than a Panther or Tiger, with good all around armor, good land speed, and stabilized weapons.

How about the first repeating rifle? The Gatling gun? First Revolver?

First heavier than air powered controlled flight?

AmPm and all the others that claim America > all i have a question for you.
Why is it so hard to understand that there are people outside the US that have also contributed a lot to the technological advancement in the last, dunno, say 500 years.
seriously, i dont get it. are they really brining you up with that kind of attitude towards other countries. i mean, it would explain a lot(dubya amongst other things) but i somehow refuse to believe that your all that stubborn.

No, I'm just explaining which inventions were from the USA. And from a realistic point of view, just based on size, economy, and military power the USA is the most important country. China is on its way up but hasn't reached the same level yet.

You may or may not like the USA, but it is the greatest nation on earth.

Also, I am against the current administration but that doesn't mean I am not patriotic.

No, the Southern states seceded from the Union because their economy was based on slavery. The war broke out because even though secession is a states right under the constitution the North was not about to lose half of its country and appear weak to the rest of the world.

if we want to get into the Civil War, England was a staunch supporter of the South; they liked cheap cotton and prefered a weak United States.  Cool

Greatest nation on earth?  Most important country?  Those are such subjective terms.

Why don't you define what you mean?  To you, is greatness military might?  Economic might?  Political might?  Then I'd say US is probably a good call.  However, to me, a country is more than that.  It's what it offers, not how it stacks up.  Standard of living could be used as a more reasonable appraisal of how "good" a country is.  But things like number of inventions and stuff is just dumb.  Let's not forget pride is a sin, something you oh-so-bright-and-outspoken patriots too often forget.

To even further ridicule the idea, the US is really a conglomeration of states.  If every country in the world got together and formed an artifical "coalition" - would the US now be second best?  Can we start comparing something more reasonable but equally ridiculous, like who lives in the best city?  Or should we realize that patriotism is simply an artificial social tool that is especially encouraged in the US, and exclamations of it are obvious, encouraged, and revealingly pathetic?

Oh hang on Forefall. Pride is only a sin when in "excess" Tongue. When a father says "I am proud of my son", is he somehow sinning? Don't take the meaning of pride so literally

As a US citizen, yes, I feel proud for my country. Is that a bad thing somehow?
The measuring stick for defining "how good' economies has always been GDP. And in GDP, US is kicking every other nations ass, big time.

Every nation is made up of smaller chunks, in Europe they usually are based on the feudal lands, Canada has provinces, and even Mexico calls itself Estados Unidos Mexicanos (United States of Mexico). So saying the USA is made up of states as part of your arguement is really kinda silly.

I really think the US kicks most other countries asses. We are the only superpower right now. Some countries are slowly coming, but not for a while to be a superpower.

and what a superpower you are. i think iraq is a fine example of how far that power actually goes.

well thats the point, the time of "kicking other countries ass" should be over since we can space travel..

Its retarded. We could spend the resources we use for killing each other for actually advancing as a human race to the next level.

In 500 years, historians will regard this time as the "developed medieval age".

Its a stoneage type of thinking you have there klash.. really cant say it any other way. Its so outdated.

AmPm - no, you're right.  Everything is made up of smaller states, and those states regions, and those regions cities, and those cities districts, etc.  That's the point - country is just one amongst many descriptions of an area, it only tends to be more important because that is typically at the maximum level of organized forces, which typically has the most use for "patriotism".

roflmao - pride is not just a sin in excess, that's an easy way to describe it.  Greed is a sin too, and not just when in excess.  Is wanting something for yourself sinful?  No, just like being proud of an achievement isn't sinful either.  So it's more complicated then just "in excess".

And economies is a reasonable charateristic to judge the value of a country to its citizens, but still doesn't compare to standard of living imo.

...I'm just saying we can. I'm not saying we should. I think we have the best army out there, but we need to use it to protect stuff like food shipments to starving countries. We aren't over there in Iraq to kill  civilians. We are there to kill terrorists. Talk to a real soldier, don't listen to the fucking news they are demo's they want us out of Iraq they only mention US casualities not any terrorists, we are winning that war, terrorist attacks are cooling down, not fast, but cooling down. We are helping this world. The newss never mentions that the US army sends food to other countries does it? We do more of that shite to help the world than any other fucking superpower. So why are we fighting over this shite, its not a big deal, i wrote a simple why I like the US soldiers, and I got 16 pages of people bullshiting about stupid shite!!!!!!WTF!!!We are all humans and allies we fight!!! Huh

Well on a forum that is around 50% foreign, you just kind of have to expect it.

Yes its retarded it turned into 16 pages of I hate/love Americans, but with such a loaded statement it was sort of expected.

Well Forefall, the two are equally important. Sweden has the highest standard of living and I am quite sure you are not going to argue they are the no1 economy in the world.

Didnt want to do this as i really respect other peoples views of things even when they are wrong (and because this is an "american" forum) but this is too much klash...

You should really get a broader view on politics and news than, cause your view is very biased and influenced by (i know its a bad word but it fits) propaganda.

There were no terrorists. There was no terrorist attack on the US. Its physically impossible to destroy a building like the WTC with a fire, no matter how long or how hot it burns. And if terrorists would have sneaked in to plant explosives on every floor of the towers, why the planes? atmosphere?

Its also a fact that the iraq was more stable with Saddam than it is now. And he would never have dared to attack any western country with any weapons whatsoever. Its like the german attack on poland.

Also the new administrative president of afghanistan, know what he did in his short term of duty? Make new oil delivery contracts to the (oh how could that happen: bush clan owned) fuel company.
