Picking Up Weapons

The vast majority of the time when you see a weapon on the ground (not a heavy weapon like an HMG or mortar, but a single man weapon that doesn't affect the squad), it's pretty obvious that you should find the most applicable squad and take it. But there are a few occasions where I wonder whether (even assuming that your enemy doesn't get it) you might actually be better without it.
Now, I know that when you are fighting only infantry, you are better off without that panzerschrek or bazooka, but what about if your Knights Cross kill a BAR squad and they drop a BAR. Should you take it or not? According to the in game stats, that bar will give them +1 vs infantry, but when you look at the squad, the results seem the opposite. Instead of 3 guys shooting MP44's, you get 2 guys with the MP44's and another with a BAR, a less effective AI weapon.
This isn't really a major game play aspect, since most squads are armed with basic rifles and just about anything on the ground will be a superior weapon, or at least won't be able to pick up the weapon because everyone in the squad is already carrier something. So, it mostly affects Knights, because they start out with the 44's and it doesn't take up their weapon slots, but it's something I've asked my teammates a lot and I've gotten a lot of mixed responses.

I think that if you find a dropped B.A.R, you should bring up a Volks/Gren squad up really quickly to support the KCH vs. mid/long range targets. I don't think KCH are as effective with a BAR than with their STG44s.

Agreed
Although if KCH pick up a dropped schrek, they can be a pretty formidable force all on their own
I remember a game last war where 1 squad of KCH got 2 pershing kills in a single game with a found schrek, was incredible

Yes, I recently said in a game of mine "KCH with RR's need nerf" in reference to my own 2 KCH squads running around with a third without RR.
Anyway, I've always figured that the attack values represented in-game were only guidelines anyway, and I think that a BAR will only weaken KCH...still, I've heard both sides and I wondered if anyone knew for sure.
dang, wrong account

I generally pick up weapons with what ever squad I have on the field and is the healthiest. Funnily enough it always seems to be a lone engineer squad who ends up wielding dual Panzershrecks, which surprisingly is quite powerful even on such a weak squad.

go get em all!
If you dont lose anything or only 1-3 squads you can actually earn rs by capping stuff and retreating it!

picking up weapons is a risky decision, especially near the end game when callins are harder to come by.
Picking up recoiless or Bazooka drastically reduces the anti-infantry effectiveness of grens. Sometimes I just perfer to leave them there.

well if you pick up an explosive weapon like RR or bazookza or shrecks you could get lucky and gib infantry with them (esp with RRs), I mean I've seen RRs miss the infantry they were suppouse to hit and gib something next to it because of the low spread >.>

Unless they are pretty far on my own side of the map, I rarely leave something on the ground, simply because I might now and then be 'down-grading' one of my squad members, but at least he won't hit me in my ass with my own anti-tank weapons or light MGs!

i tend to only pick up RRs, zookas, and schrecks with KCH, LMG and BAR is a down grade. other then that I try to get something to pick it up, volks with a bar are really deadly I found out.; I will find some squad to pick up whatever is dropped though, just to not let my enemy get it.
