chinas army is not well trained compared to european forces, just GI american soliders.

Oh yes, your militaries whom have NEVER seen combat in as large a scale as the United States has (for this generation anyways), who will spend 1 second taking a step and 20 minutes scouting the next step to make sure its super duper extra safe, and whom have far inferior tech, inferior methods of training, and have relied on the US to win the last two wars for you are superior to the regular US army  Roll Eyes. I suppose spetnatz are the best force in the world now, since that happens to be the storyline to some random fictional military novel/game XD.

In all honestly, I don't understand where this thinking of "America has numbers and technology, europe has skill, china has numbers and kills by that" came into thinking. Is it that hard to realize that a single nation can singlehandedly obliterate your nation on the turn of a dime, with minimal casualties on our side and maximum casualties on your side? China against the US is essentially 100 riflemen VS a King Tiger with laserbeam MG's. Europe vs US is France vs Germany Cheesy.

As far as Iraq + Afghanistan goes, the terrorists essentially are the population. We're trying to make Men out of Monkeys *points to the original afghan-ussr conflict*.

@ Akrandas: Problem is a Fuel Air bomb (based on what the public knows) often loses composition after 1 hour, resulting in a weapon that practically needs to be manufactured and deployed on the spot. Russia is supposed to have a variation on that design without the downside of having a limited amount of time before the bomb fails. Try MOABs instead Wink.

The jingoism in this post gave me liver failure.

I try not to become too patriotic, other wise i become what i despise.

but i think an episode of ultimate force summed up American thinking i hate: Some people took a load of other people hostage on a bus, and the American holiday makers thought there was a chance they would be let JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE AMERICAN!, they said "we are American, can you let us go!" i was just laughing my head off.

but yea that's a T.V. program.

But i agree with Akra, The US army does seem to be based around heavy support, be that AIR, Armour or whatever, hence why they have lost so many men in the city fighting of Iraq - All this heavy support (unfortunately for the men who have died) doesn't do much.

Yes Baghdad was more hostile than Basra, but you can't say Basra was safe either, and the British managed to hold it with far less soldiers and also less casualties.

Saying the US could flatten the UK or any European country is true and i agree fully, but not entirely a fair comparison of who are better trained/ generally better soldiers since the US is bigger than the whole of Europe, But the claim the US could beat UK in a battle of equal numbers i would be skeptical of.

Well, for one it isn't entirely smart to have an army whose sole method of attack is to overwhelm the enemy with numbers and lose thousands in the process... (and they have never been able to capture taiwan, a puny country that china insists it owns) along with the fact they essentially suck when compared to the US military.

You're officially an idiot, comparing the modern Chinese army to the WW2 Russian one. Well done!
Do you really think the Chinese army today would still operate under a "human wave" doctrine?  Roll Eyes

The Chinese army has gone through some vast modernisation for the past few decades and you can hardly call it a crappy army. Their military budget has been increasing on a yearly basis btw, it's still nowhere near that of the US but they want a steady grow and prioritise economy. Imagine the flamefest that would follow if someone was to call the US army shit. "Oh look at how they can't even win in Iraq!"
In addition, the US military's budget is the highest in the world, would suck if the US army wasn't more modern than everyone else with a budget like that. Wink No doubt though all of this is at the cost of US economy, so how important is that "WTFAWESOME" US army really? Did the invasion of Iraq make you feel better? Did it improve your economical situation? Wrong.

Did you know that the army of all European Union countries combined is significantly bigger than that of the US? Not to mention the easier mobilisation on land. And most larger European countries really aren't that far behind from the US in terms of technology. (Leopard II > Abrams)
In addition, this is even if there was to be a head on confrontation between countries which is unlikely to happen in the near future.

Next time do some research, even if its from wikipedia, before you post bullshit on these forums.

Why the hell are you comparing the European countries seperate to the US like that?
It's not even relevant, and then you're comparing countries with 10 - 100 million people to one with 300 million.
An even better comparison, it's like saying that the European Army could kick the living shit out of the state of New York but not out of the US itself.

In a scenario as the one described above, there would be no "seperate country", maybe for the British since they're such Euro-haters Wink but aside from that. EU > Country. The agressor In Europe would either be fighting the entire European Union or no one.

This thread is full of nonsense anyway.
I doubt the average american even knows what the "European Union" actually does and means to Europe.

Wow brilliant, things like "US won WW1 & WW2", "Our militaries have never seen combat on a large scale" (Wait, what WW1 & WW2? Tons of NATO & EURO assistance missions all over the world....? But I guess Afghanistan/Gulf Wars & Vietnam were much bigger conflicts, right?)

Those who have never served in the military should never slander professional militaries much less comment about them.

hang on so to comment is worse than slander? Anyway that's like saying those who have never been in politics shouldn't have an opinion.

My conclusion of this thread:

lompocus is a mentally challenged redneck who is completely ignorant of the world he lives in. He probably thinks that borad really came from Kazahstan, and that Chinese are still in the middle ages. Or he is simply a 12 year old kid with minimal education who is just truying to look smart infront of people who he will never see outside this forum.

And as for your comments, China cannot attack Taiwan, because US is threatening to mobilize in there if they do. The US is basically like USSR back in the 50-60s, entire economy based on military, they need wars to survive.

Spetznas is the best trained fighting force at the moment, but they are special forces, not an army.

next comment:

"As far as Iraq + Afghanistan goes, the terrorists essentially are the population. We're trying to make Men out of Monkeys *points to the original afghan-ussr conflict*."

STFU man, there have been occasions with britis and US soldiers dressing as terrorrist and attacking the Iraqi police, go back to your shack and pasture and stay there.

Fucking moron.

P.S. Im fully hopind that this thread will be DELETED. It has no truth or constructive...ANYTHING in it whatsoever.

It's shit like this that really pisses me off. "Typical Stupid American"? Have you met every single fucking American? Or something even remotely close to the majority of us? If not, then how in the fuck can you to generalize us as stupid? It really seems to me that Europeans need to get their heads out of their asses. As of World War 2, we are the dominant military and economic force in the World (next to the USSR until it collapsed), and its YOUR fault, not ours. Stop trying to undermine America because we ended up at the top of the world because of your stupid World Wars. I don't see the need for all the constant US bashing that seems to come from Europe. Yes we have idiots like lompocus, but thats not our fault. Jesus, America surpassed you along time ago, get over it already. No-one (with the probable exception of lompocus) expects us to stay here forever, so quit stressing out about it.

The US is basically like USSR back in the 50-60s, entire economy based on military, they need wars to survive.

Hahaha..... no.  We have a consumer economy that benefited from EUROPEAN Wars, not ones we were directly involved in.

Allow me to state.

The United States is the economic and military super power for a variety of reasons, but cheif among them is,

Room. We were allowed to spread out and grow in our formative years. We have an aboslutely massive variation of resources and land within our own country. This allows for many diffrent productions, peoples, ideas and doctrines to be developed. I'm not saying that other countries aren't capable of standalone sucssess, but that America simply has more.

The Cold War and WW's I and II. We didnt get the shit end of the stick during these conflicts. When the wars were over we simply took our ball and went home after smacking a few nations and telling them to sit down and shut up. As for the cold war, Europe ended up a peice of meat between two dogs, as did the rest of the unalligned world. As such, we never saw directly damaging conflict.

Economy. We have had some massive fucking booms in our econ in the past decades. Yes, they are going down now, but the idea is how we got here, not were we are going. As such, we had massive surplusses to spend on...everything.

Finally is identity. I'm not saying we have one that makes us better, but when the idea of America gets on stage with any other idea, it wins by swinging its dick and singing about freedom and the ability to live a dream. I can't think of another country that does that.

As for the current military conflict and why the decision on it is that America either 'Sucks ass' or 'Rocks, just not right now'. It comes from as stated before, doctrine. We base our military on stand up conflicts. The American public likes the big final punch, the kick to the curb, the 'Mission Accomplished'. However, when you go from fighting countries and armies to fighting ideas and civilians you throw that baby out of the window.
In times past, America has been able to use the curb stomping public image by limiting media. But because of mass media we can now see the burning bodies, bloody soldiers and crying women. Since America never had a war on its doorstep before Vietnam, we've pretty much grown into that ideal and refuse to break from it.
So, if we cant win (or make it look like we win) in one sucker punch, we start bitching, and want to go home. Because we cant bring our awesomely big guns to bear on cities and start blowing the shit out of every Johhny without looking like dicks, we are reduced to simply throwing as many men into the area and trying to reform the entire population to our ideas.

Long story short, America is just as awesome as it sounds, but that doesn't make it MORE awesome than anyone else.
