I really don't think thats right for our soldiers, when we are sending out Billions of Dollars in tax money each year for that war, if they can't eve accommidate our soldiers. I wrote two congressmen about it.

Its not WW2 I mean if we can supply the troops that, shouldn't we. I mean if your out there fighting for your country(army) don't you think you could give them what the contract said. The whole thing about this is the army contract promises them certain stuff and this was one of them.

I somehow doubt a military contract gives you a lot of guarantees about the conditions you will be living in. The government obviously does promise accomodation & supplies when needed. To be honest, and I watched the video, I didn't find it 'shocking'. Sure, there's better conditions to live in, but if I was a soldier, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about the condition of my toilet & my shower. I'll be fucking glad there is a shower & toilet to begin with.
I guess some people have never been part of youth groups and been on summercamps.

Same Salan, my uncle had signed a contract he had better conditions than that. No soldier ever gets their
promised
way of living. Thats what this is about, not that its too OMG bad, its that the army lied to them and has a contract to abide too.

Maybe you should give us the extract of the contract that exactly states that, then yes we can agree the government didn't stick to the contract. But in the end, nobody really cares. The US already spent 3 trillion on the war on iraq (undermining its own economy for generations to come), do you really want to throw in some more?

Well, I think they should just remodel those barracks, but that can wait. The only thing that needs serious fixing would probably be the sewage system. Maybe a new coat of paint, don't want any lead poisoning. Other than that, it shouldn't cost too much to fix. A fresh coat of paint and new sewage system isn't too much to ask for is it?
I found this video afterwards.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH5u1zMzSa8&feature=related
Now I think they're spending too much for just remodeling. No wonder it's taking so long, look at those TVs. They kinda need to find a middle ground.

That doesnt even fit US health standards! how could you expect men to live like that. men we send out to die for our beliefs (most of which i don't support) but man this is horrible.

I find that video exaggerated. Of course the sewage problems are disgusting and maybe the lead paint is a health hazard. Maybe the government lied to them. Well thats new. Also the spongue bob toilet seat is hard to tolerate.
But a grunt should be able to take stuff like that. They even get extra bucks to live in these barracks.

Haven't watched the video yet, but most soldiers don't even have proper body armor, soldiers end up having to buy stuff off of ebay, or get equipment from soldiers who just got done being deployed. My dad I believe ended up buying his own body armor because the armor he was issued wasn't as good as it could be. Though I do know he lived in decent conditions, I remember him saying "Once we get the AC up we will have things pretty nice." they have xbox and plasma TV in a living quarters and stuff like that. It all depends on what area you are in and such, watching the video now.
Oh snap, I just realized it was conditions in barracks on post, not out in Afghanistan or things like that.
I was actually in Fort Bragg when they said they were going to start doing the new barracks. Those conditions are disgusting, soldiers should be in conditions equal to that of say dorms at a college. They shouldn't be living in rat holes. Also soldiers are FORCED to live in these conditions. If you are a single soldier you HAVE to live in barracks, you can't move out unless you are married. It's not like you can go get an apartment or live in the housing on post. The thing is, like said, to remodel a single barracks building would not be a huge amount of money, and wouldn't take more then a few months of remodeling, though I'm sure the plumbing would take some time.
Also everything about Fort Bragg is quite old and needs to be remodeled and I do know they were working on it. The school I was in had just been built 5 years prior, when I moved they were re-modeling all the houses as well as making new housing areas.
ps, lol at the narrators saying "company of heroes."

Let's let each of our soldiers live like Bill Gates, so when they go on combat missions they'll have all the survival skills they'll ever need.
Also I laughed at "nay, a company of heroes."

If you want an exact contract don't ask they don't release thos publicly. I'm not saying they need Plasma Screen TVS or Xbox 360. That was Fort Bradd Right here in America, not in no frontlines.

Wow, I bet they would be suprised if I told them that at one time in history soldiers had to pay for their own armor (if they could afford it), weapons, and when applicable, horses. And it's much better then 2 people to a 1 man canvas tent.
Do you think you're going to live in a healthy envirornment in any army no matter how technologically advanced/well funded? Do you think that you have some kind of guarantee that your superiors will genuinely care for you?
Most of the stuff we have is better than any other army has for its troops in terms of accomidating our troops, I see little room for outrage, but I do see room for complaint, though I don't think it needs to be fixed.

They don;t need to live liek bill gates, But they are steppign in front of bullets and taking IED, and in areas of the world where if your tired one day, it could mean you get a bullet to the head, or an explosion killing your best friends.
Decent conditions afetr living in a place like they were, would sufice...
Yes they signed up for it, Yes they got a contract, But guess what, If they don;t voluenteer, they draft you. I ma not saying start a crusade, But i lived in Fayetville NC for 2 years, They called it "Fayetenam" Both Fort brag army, and Pop airfice bases were there. And it was never the pinacale of perfection, btu they could do better then that...
They sation soilders there for months leading up to their deployment as well... So its not a question of IF they wanted ot be there, They have tobe.

It is not like they are asking for much. Just a new paint job and a plumber can go a long way.
I dont understand why we can spend billions on carpet bombs and use them liberally, but we cant even put a few thousand into improving the quality of soliders at home.
Just my 2 cents. And I did contact my Senator.

Any of you that see nothing wrong with it, go stay in a shitty hostel for 3 months, and tell me if you'd like to live there for twice that long in between deployment in conditions that are even worse?
There is no reason why they shouldn't be in better living conditions. Also I don't think every barracks room needs a flat screen, xbox, and free computer, those are all things the soldiers can afford on their own, because they do make pretty good money, especially if they have been deployed. But they certainly DO need healthy living conditions, something that they can't do on their own. You shouldn't expect them to have to do carpentry between going on PT and their normal duties on post.

Finally some is smart Rikki, all they asked for was healthy living conditions back here at home. Its not like you have it any worse than them, and what did you do for the world in the last year, did you save a life?

I wouldn't and that's why I'm not joining the army the superiors just like the ones in every army don't care for their troops enough. When you join the army you shouldn't expect anything better than the army trying to help you, in some moderate form, to stay alive and getting a paycheck with for the little prerequisites you need for the job, along with the fat college scholarship most people are joining the army for.

So you are saying, that since the government can do what it wants that troops deserve the worst living conditions that the government can give them?
