Ok guys, this came to me after reading all the news on EIR and 2.0, and the pessimism about the current state of affairs.  We all love this mod, and the community is growing, which is wonderful.  So we as the community should do something for FL-.  We all want the fabled 2.0 to come out, and we all give praise and support for it and him and his hard work.  But we also all know he has become burned out on the project, and as gamerandy has said that since this is like a second job without any of the benefits, he has become burned out on it.  Yes it takes up time, yes there are more important things than games, life, wife, kids, etc.

I propose we do something more than just give praise and support, lets all put our money where our mouth is.  We  all love this mod, lets do something for him.

I will start this by giving my 10 dollars, and if enough of us do it, and we all must do it, he will have enough to get an incentive.  On top of that, all of us here can afford 10 dollars US, even the kids in the community.  So lets do the math 10x50=500.  Thats a good start.  Then FL- has some actual revenue from the project, he can do with it what he likes, I myself would take the girl out for a nice weekend, out of town, to a resort place, have a fancy dinner, and just enjoy myself, but when I returned would have all that incentive to continue this project.  Back when I started with this mod and community, I saw something golden here, something that breaks bounderies and forges new ground, and hell if I had the disposable income I would have given much more than I had to get this turned into something amazing, and hell if it went very well, open a new gaming company.  Alas those are dreams and I digress....

I donated $50 US, for I saw the value in this, and felt it is worth much more than that, especially since he is running a Vent server, website, and forums.  Has a launcher that while it could be better, should be the envy of some gaming companies *cough* EA *cough*.

So lets show our support, lets be true the man that brought us his vision for something great.  I am donating right after this post, and I hope you as a community will do the same as I have done.

Crono,
Its not really the same thing, I understand what you're trying to do but I'm pretty sure this has been brought up before and the dev team said something along the lines of "Donations mean we keep the website and vent server up, they do not make us develop faster"

By all means, donate if you want - but don't expect anything to change because of it

I still maintain that we should all chip in to get fldash's wife a delicious pastry of her choice.

Also, I lost a game due to not enough anti-infantry units, so airborne get double damage at each vet level.

More changes to come.

I don't think money alone will make Fldash come back as a full time programmer. The man has too on his hands and giving him money is going to almost stress him even more since now he'll feel uneasy about not working on the project while receiving money. IMHO, it'll add another thought for him to think about and thus create more stress. By all means, donate money to help keep the server running. I just don't think money will bring him back as a programmer.

I don't see the problem with $10, thats like £6: as much as a packet of cigarettes and a bottle of coke or a six pack..

People should just give on the basis that they have enjoyed the mod.

I totally agree, but its like with anything, its damn hard to get ppl to pay money for something that is free, napster anyone?  I know asking 10 dollars is very little, but to actually get ppl to do it, thats like asking them to give up the air they breath.

Actually its more along the lines that he has moved on to running a AoC guild. Tongue

Tell me, for all those that have been playing and enjoy this, have any of you donated?  Burned out or not, I feel that this mod is worth the full retail price of any quality game, especially one of Relics standards.

I'm sure my mapping contributed a lot more to the mod than I could've ever donated in cash Tongue.
