Just watched Cross of Iron again, forgot about another great Scene with Steiner and his men later on behind Enemy Lines when they are talking generally and he says -

'' Will the world ever forgive us for what we have done ? Will they forget ? ''

Extremely deep rhetoric, forgot how engrossing this film is.

They are making another Mortal Combat movie, as well as restarting the Street Fighter movies.  I think the new GI Joe movie will be good as well.

Quote
What the gaming industry should do is put together some kind of studio or group of movie makers like DC and Marvel just recently made. What happens is the studio works directly with the artists and authors to create the movies so they are actually good. The reason why the Hulk was remade only 5 years after the last movie. And why the Dark Knight is going to be so awesome =D

The DC/Marvel thing has done well for the movies, although the new Hulk is a bit of a dud, Iron Man was awesome though.  Oh and for the record, Dark Knight is going to be awesome because of Chris Nolan.  DC had little to nothing to do with the movie other than giving it the OK...the movie is Chris Nolans view of what Batman should have been and it is going to be incredible!  For those of you that dont know the movie that is going into theaters is pretty much a directors cut, which very rarely happens.  Most of the time the studio buffs make them cut this or that out or cut it down, they didnt with this because they feel the movie is great.  Its almost 2.5 hours long (a bit over that) Im going to see it on 6am the day its released (only because the midnight and 3:15am showings are sold out)  Ive been waiting for this movie since I saw Begins.

Dude... I know!!

I read this book a couple years before the movie enemy at the gates and the movie just failed in my eyes, the best part was when they were winging to vcover the noises of diging and after the couple of hours.... the germans relized the russians were sinning for the same reason and they started first... and Boom... the end of that platoon....

AWSOME book, i loved it.

Paul W.S. Anderson, Michael Bay, and Uwe Boll are the unholy trinity of shitty directors. Nothing good comes from them. Ever. They butcher films. Me taking a shit is more entertaining than anything these giant rectal ticks could turn out.

The ONLY good game to movie title was Silent Hill and I don't see that changing anytime soon. If they make a Halo movie... it will suck. Half-Life I desperately don't want them to make into a movie... because it will suck too. I know it will suck. Hollywood will make sure it sucks. Hollywood wants movies to remain dominant over games as the primary entertainment media therefore they will never make truly good movies from game franchises so that the genre is forever looked at as 'secondary' (/tin foil hat).

Take AvP for example... The first game had a great plot for a movie. It was set in the established 'Aliens' Universe which is already a great starting point for a screenplay, the history is already there.... you just need to hire actors, flesh out a script and put it together. BUT NOOOOOO. Paul W.S. Anderson had to go and make his own "version" to try and show people how big is penis is (very very small as it turns out) and we got that piece of shit "movie" instead of the good one the game had practically given them.

God dammit, every time I see these game-movie discussions I just get so mad.

Anyhow... Enemy at the Gates sucked, yes. As did Saving Private Ryan.

The Good ones are the older ones. A Bridge too Far and The Longest Day ftw. Oh yes, and "The Eagle has Landed" was a good movie. I recommend that one though I never read the book. 'Lion of the Desert' is a little known goody about the Italians war in Libya from 1911 to 1931. It is very good as well.

There's no beating 'All Quiet on the Western Front' though. Movie or Film. Fuckin classic.

How old are you, not for any stupid reason but, if you are of the older audiences, you are of course more likely to prefer the older examples of the genre. Either that, or you grew up with someone who did and shared that love.

Paul W.S. Anderson actually gained recognition after Mortal Kombat, which was actually not a "bad" adaptation, considering how hard it is to make a movie out of a fighting game with very little in the ways of plot. It stood faithful to the characters to the end and in fact, inspired one of sub-zeroes powers.

Everything else by him has sucked major balls.

I wouldn't approach the Halo movie with such disdain prior to even watching it. Its called bias and prejudice. Meaning that by the time you actually watch it, you will WANT it to be bad, and you will convince yourself that it is, even when you normally wouldn't. Mind you, some BIG names have overseen that movie adaptation, my favorite being Guillermo Del Toro.

As a final tidbit of information: Not all movies you see are made or even involve Hollywood, and video games surpassed the movie industry more than a year ago.

Why? Single DVD: $20
Single standard retail game: $60

It takes three DVD sales to fill for one videogame sale. Considering about 3-4 years ago a census determined 8/10 homes in the U.S. had a playstation(and the insutry has more than doubled since then), thats a big figure.

GTAIV sold $300 million dollars in ONE DAY. In total, it has garned 11 million sales(about 660,000,000 dollars). What an $80mil movie production makes in 6 months, a $100mil game made in one day.

its insanely awesome Smiley

Games I'd like to see as movies...

Command and Conquer (Tiberium Storyline)

Fallout

Freespace

Mass Effect

Half-life? I don't know, maybe. It might work...

Halo of course.

I found this on Wikipedia so I don't know how accurate it is, but here's a list of movies based on video games.

I think someone on these forums said it already, and I know I've heard it said before, but Half Life wouldn't make a good movie. First off there is so much story telling that the first game being turned into a movie would have to be an 8 hour mini-series. On top of that, the story is told well in the game already, and on top of that you are an actual character in the game, so it's like you are in the movie. So I think it's the games that have good plots or stories, but in the game just aren't told well that would liken them to be good movies. Movies of games that I wish came out.

A GOOD resident evil movie that actually follows the plot of the game. Imagine how cool Resident Evil 1 would of been if it were a movie. The monsters rock! The problem is you have to change around how they get come point A to B. I mean it wouldn't make sense in a movie (and it doesn't make sense in the game) to have to find the red eye of a tiger statue and place it in the tiger statue have the statue move to reveal a key that opens a door on the other side of the mansion... you get my drift...

Doom. Man, if they took the original doom and turned it into a movie, and followed the story line of the game, that would be awesome.

And I think as far as game movies go, the best was Silent Hill.

I actually think that some of the upcoming games to movies have potential to be good.

Max Payne and Prince of Persia being the 2 bigger ones I see.  Uwe Boll just needs to be shot so that he doesnt put out another piece of shit, because really all he puts out is shit.  Bay is alright, I thought Transformers (not a game I know but as an example) wasnt horrible, I actually liked the movie, it was entertaining.

I agree taking the original Doom story line and making it a movie would have been great...but they fucked it up.

I agree with you on EatG...however I strongly disagree with you on Saving Private Ryan; that movie was great, I still remember seeing the opening scenes in the theater and thinking "holy shit."  I can still sit down and watch that movie and enjoy it every time.

dont know if i ever saw eatg but saving private ryan is one of my top 10 movies of all time and that will never change, it's a great movie, especially since it was able saving this guy but at the same time you saw a lot of WW2 in the mean time. In actuality, SPR is a lot like the fps ww2 shooters you see because they moved as a squad and saw more enemy than their own people and had to go at it a lone a lot.
MoH: Allied Assault if i remember correctly is based off of SPR.

I definitely would like to see a mechwarrior based film, that would be sick.  As for SPR - it has its good and its bad, but overall it's a pretty good movie.

I disagree with the whole Half Life-cant-be-made-into-a-movie. It is doable, albeit not easy.

None of these games are even remotely close to some fo the "decent" adaptations that have been made in the past(and named before in previous posts).

Try Lord of the Rings. Now sure sure, my fellow hobbits, the book is plenty of ages better than the film, but no matter where you are coming from, the film was actually a GREAT shot, considering the juggernaut. What I think should be done for a half life approach, is collapse the useless transitions in the game(preventing the rocket launch, for instance) and save it for character development. Unfortunately, making Gordon would be very hard if not impossible.

Medal of Honor was MADE by steven spielberg, it was later bought by EA and Allied Assault was conceived. Amazing game.

The Max Payne movie has been going for eons, and a Splinet Cell teaser was released in the Chaos Theory game. Still nothing(Watching real life ironside jumping around will be hilarious though, if he IS Sam).

A movie based on the Sisms is simply stupid, unless given to a VERY clever and abstract director to make some crap like Wake Up Life meets meets Maxis, lol.
