anyone ever figure out to really use smoke in this game? i think it's one of the most underused abilities in coh period but i'm sure that it could be useful, any tips from anyone?
are there any other under used abilites anyone knows of that could be useful?

Its on the wrong unit. In FoW for example smoke is used by inf and hides them completly, allowing to by-pass dead zones. In CoH when you can smoke your own units to pass you might as well just move 5m more up and start hitting that mg.

I always used it a decent amount in vanilla CoH. I'd smoke and rush flamers (which do well in smoke) and use it to cap point under fire, but flamers arent very useful and there are no points in EiR...so it isnt very useful.

I can't fine any real usage in Eir for Mortar Smoke really. The only time I used Mortar smoke personally is to screen my flame pios from the blasted Tommies in the Trenches.

Smoke on tanks is pretty good. Say your Sherm is vet 2 and nearly dead from a PaK. Pop smoke and it will have a 20% chance to hit you. it is pretty useful for tough fights where you need just that little edge.

maybe we can pursuade devs to include them on basic infantry? that sounds like the most obvious solution, heck the brits can have their infantry, if they have the nade launcher, fire smoke.

Smoke does have its use.
I remeber a game where there was a supervised mortar covered by an mg, and the only way to get to that mortar was to go through the mg. Now rather then play a mortar dance with my mortar I drop smoke on the mg in the house, move in 2 rifle squads, throw a nade on the mortar, one on the mg and kill the officer. It is also good if you get suppressed off guard and you want to gtfo, assuming u don't have fire-up.

Works great for assaulting strong holds in EiR. Smoke first, then mortar the target while you are rushing your infantry in.

Thanks nick and bodybag, I was about to chime in with thtb in saying how it's much easier to mortar the mortar, but i guess in the case of being allied it would prove to not only be harder to mortar the axis mortar with less range but a hell of a lot easier to attack with rifles under the cover of smoke. Now if I could only remember to use smoke to an advantage in game...

It helps if you have a lot of grenades too, smoke on the mg in the house, throw nade.

smoke out an 88 then rush in with inf and tanks :O. with the inf can un-man the 88 then you have tank support to back you up.

2.0 was going to have a lot more smoke featured for both axis & allies . (Doctrine abilities, etc)
