i thought these forums were a place to express your feelings but everytime someone does it either gets locked or deleted. whats the point of having a GENERAL Discussion forum if you are just gonna lock peoples posts?

Huh?  I'm confused as to what you're complaining about, or whether you're just trying to be a dick.

What I believe is he's saying that when people are debating over something it gets locked.

As a general rule we do allow for open dialogue so long as it A) Remains civil B) Does not degenerate into spam or flaming C) Does not veer into arguments about race, politics, nationality, religion, or history and D) does not violate the forum rules (such as public attacks on players). In general if we lock a thread, we post the reason in the last post.

If you disagree with any action taken by a moderator, please send a private message to Salan, me, and Akranadas (send to all of us) and we will be happy to try to resolve your issue.

These are the forums rules.

For the most part I think EiR forum moderation is done well and is justified. But some moderators are overdoing it way too much. If someone is complaining about a bug abuse, or a drop hack or similar, such threads get locked immediatly, even without flaming. If someone is performing a serious violation of game rules, people have the right to be informed about that and the accused have the right to have a platform where to defend themselves.

Threads which only remotely show the physique of the female body (firefox kitten) are titled as porn and are deleted, which is sad.

What I dislike the most is that threads about political topics get locked upon creation, just because moderators have the prejudice that all political debates will end in flaming. What is this?

The internet is a forum of free expression. I can quote fldash directly upon this. He only wanted posts deleted when they are illegal or pornographic, which is already way more liberal than the current rules. And these are only the foundation of a moderation policy that is even stricter. Putting order into the chaos is necessary, but condemnation upon slighest suspicion is not.

First off can we have links to the threads in question. Second: the community has proved that it can not have a rational discussion without it turning into a flame fest, therefore any threads that have the hint of anything negative against a person/place/event/thing, should and does get locked because there are a few individuals who have tunnel vision, see something 1 way and then insults everyone else for not agreeing.

After looking at the front page of general and alpha there are 4 locked threads and 1 was done by the thread creator. So I don't see your point. You can discuss whatever, but if it turns into a flamwar (even if you dont' start it) it gets locked. If you think this is too strict then add forums.relicnews.com to your blocked website list because you'll shit a brick (granted I like the way the relic news forums are run, survival of the fittest tbh, you're an idiot and your gone)

Oh and APEX yes you have free expression on the internet, but a forum run by someone else has rules and can do what ever people with "power" can do because of their freedom to do whatever. The Internet has many great freedoms, but you can't go to someone else's site and post whatever you want if they don't want it.

Pertaining to topic:

Here is a great example of shit that should get deleted from a thread http://forums.europeinruins.com/index.php/topic,6325.30.html

Perhaps not locked but all of what THTB said should be deleted because he apparently hates Americans and likes to voice it in any topic what so ever with complete disregard for how anyone else may feel about such an issue. There are no clear pointed statements or facts just bashing.

And I've clicked on that thread to be reviewed upon by a mod.

The freedom to take other peoples freedom    Cheesy  I loled.
Yeah, it's sad political debates aren't possible, but just deleting crap would be sufficient in this case.
I gave up to try partake in any serious discussions anyway, either it's crap and gets locked, or it gets locked without being crap.
Left aside the few occasions where it's crap and doesn't get locked.
I respect the moderation here, it's a clean forum with a low amount of flaming after moderation, not counting the flame against the moderation, and for discussing

.. forget it, should we discuss the weather?
It's fine.

I agree deleting crap would be fine, however the amount of crap that is constantly shoveled upon the threads with no inclination to stop just doesn't justify deletion and instead a lock is in place. Plus we have like 3 mods who are generally not forum trolls and pursue many other topics. I would love to be a mod just to clean up threads because I would love to have a political discussion about stuff but here is how most go:

"XX county wants to join EU" (response) (response) (response) (America is dumb, pigs and dumb) (response to that) (response to that) (flame war) (flame war) (flamewar for the next 14 posts) (person posting to try to get back on topic) (locked).

I think you're just being a dick making this comment to a new player Wink.

And I agree with what apex said, minus the part about exploiters & drophackers as I do believe those things shouldn't be discussed in public Wink. (As they're rarely discussions, generally just flame fests)

Perhaps the reason why we can't have discussions is because some people have no idea how to argue with out being 1) insulting 2) coherant or 3) the ability to accept that they may be wrong.
