So I went to the local gamestop to buy crysis warhead on the release date. It wasn't in stock, which didn't surprise me but it was the only day I was able to get out this week. No big deal, I thought, I'll just pre-order it, right?  It seemed like a logical idea at the time, so I gave the guy my phone number, my 5 dollars, and got my receipt and left.

Gamestop failed as soon as I walked out of that door.

Firstly: What the fuck is with the fact that gamestop carries roughly 0.00% PC games on its shelves? I know that console games dominate the mass market, but honestly carry some PC games you schmucks, you're disrespecting true hardcore gamers.

Secondly: What the fuck? I'm not expecting you to have it in the day of release, but can you at least fucking CALL ME when my order is in? What did I give your crater-faced ass at the desk my five bucks and my phone number for if he can't be arsed to call me when my fucking game comes in?  The only reason I knew that the game was in stock was that gamestop's unintuitive website amazingly had enough detail on it to tell me it was.  I had to call the store to confirm the order that I bought (pre-reserved) was in stock, that's what five bucks and my phone number gets me.

Seriously, fuck gamestop, I'm not giving them another dime until I see that they are more than completely incompetent dumbasses.

lol... IŽd be glad to see the new releases around here in less than 3 months without paying 4 times its price for it.

lol.

Here's the secret: Gamestop/EB is not a video game retailer.  They are a used game dealer.  Only consoles have used games, so they really don't care about PC games.

Honestly, where do you live? The middle of nowhere?

I live in pretty much suburban southwestern, PA - admittedly in a white collar bubble but nonetheless it's as close to the middle of nowhere as you can get while still having civilization nearby.

I can literally walk for 15 minutes and be in a very, very rural area.

Aye kolath, where am I to get my games from then? Sadly gamestop is the only thing that's conveniently close to where I live - anything else is roughly 15 minutes away, which is a waste of gasoline.

I should probably open a gamestop.

It is sort of like printing money.

Step 1: Sell overpriced game to stupid customer

Step 2: Buy back game for about 1/10th of its value

Step 3: Sell used game for nominal discount on original price

Step 4: Profit

Come on, they buy back a 3 month old $60 games for like $10-$15, then turn and resell for 40-50. People need to learn to use Amazon or Ebay.

Its no different than campus bookstores. Really the $4 they give you back is really just a small fuck you for donating your $100 textbook to be resold for $85.

/rant on used game/book sellers.

Yes, thank you, Wraith, for more explicitly explaining!

Luckily since I own no consoles, my games are $50 or less always  Cheesy

I never understood how people put up with $60 console games.  Even craptacular games are $50 whereas for PCs, crappy games get discounted to $20-30 really fast.

Yes. I always buy everything online unless I see a good deal in a store.

Pennsylvania FTW!

I must disagree with you, however, on just how much GS sucks.  The local GS where I live has always contacted me when my pre-order gets in stock.  The only time I go to them, however, is when I don't feel like paying shipping fees or when I don't feel like setting up an eBay auction.  So I guess I don't have as much experience with them as you do.

Honestly, I hate waiting for shipping so I usually just call all the stores that sell games and see who has it in stock for lowest price.  I tend to have luck with Best Buy and EBGames having stuff on release day.  Target sometimes has great deals on games for super cheap.

or go to target.com, bestbuy.com, etc. and check the prices. Some of them you're able to buy the game online and then pick it up.

Where I live Gamestop has PC games it still has Crysis,Coh, and other games. The service there is very good, I always have a kind person on the other side of the counter. Here where I live Gamestop>Any other spot for games.

But I do agree buy 1/10th the cost sell it 10times more is shit.

Where you live the gamestop must suck ass cause its really good where I am. Grin

They vary a lot by store.  In my area (Northern VA suburbs of DC) there are probably 12 gamestop/EB Games stores.  Some have lots of PC games, some have zero.  Some have nice staff others are mean.
