Things that made Kolath very sad:

1. No modding  Cry Cry (WH40K is just asking for the EiR treatment)
2. Emphasis on heroes
3. Still has base-building
4. "Persistancy" has no gameplay effect

Bingo...you summed up the 4 largest reasons why DOWII will be a piece of shit.

How the fuck would they even think about releasing with only 2v2 and 3v3 maps?  That makes absolutely no sense.  And on top of that, only having five?!  Christ, unless they're all great, I'm passing.  Which is too damned bad, because I had hoped Relic was getting their shit back together.

Agreed.

How no 1v1?  What serious RTS game doesn't have 1v1?

The game will ship with a total of five multiplayer maps, comprising three six-player maps and two two-player maps.

If the article is wrong I take it back, but if it's right the best we're going to get is playing 1v1 on a 2v2 map.   Undecided

Wow what a shitty review, and how on earth could relic justify such a poor game considering thier previous titles?

I might save my money wait till its 50% off at EBgames and get empire instead.  The grpahic previews look great but they are seriously missing the mark if all that is suggested is true.

I think your reading it wrong Stumpster, a "two-player map" is a 1v1 just like a six-player map is a 3v3, the sizes missing are 2v2 & 4v4

I am just waiting for akra to post here, lets see how he saves this one.

Why would I bother trying to sway the opinions of people who have already made their mind up?

The game was never going to be Dawn of War with better Graphics, it was never going to be Company of Heroes in Space. It was always going to be something new; and I for one am glad for that and will enjoy it for it's own merits.

Same deal... it's what he meant. Frankly I find your condescending, omniscient attitude to be overwhelmingly stupid.  Then again, you are an asshole.

None of us have totally fixed opinions about the game because we haven't played it yet but this review, to us, seems to point in the wrong direction. That's the concern we are voicing, and I'm fairly certain it is legitimate.

Most of the article leaves out important key bits of information, the reviewer himself seems to be somewhat lacking in understanding in both the Warhammer 40,000 universe and the RTS genre in general.

Concern for a game means nothing when it is the vision of the creators that ultimately comes through.

If you guys want a proper preview of the game, the best person to ask is a person that is both a fan of RTS games and W40k games, and those players are actual community members. Follow this thread if you are actually interested in this game http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=209632

In other words, if you want a proper (p)review of the game, the best person to ask is a fanboy? Rofl.
You don't need to know anything about the game's storyline to be able to judge its gameplay.

No, the best person to ask is someone with expereince; and I wouldn't call the person that played it a fanboy.

In this instance, I would say you do: certain things are meant to work a certain way while others are not. What may look as a poor gameplay element to an outsider of the universe, may make perfect sense to someone who knows the universe (melee vs tanks for instance)

Still you said:

I'm not a fan of the W40k universe, I doubt most people are. If only they will be able to appreciate the game, that's not exactly going to make them a lot of money. The game should be just as enjoyable for non W40k fanboys.

You would assume that the previewer has just as much experience in playing the game as the community member who's playing the beta. Needless to say, obviously the latter is a W40k fan where as the previewer was not. Still, one (p)review is never enough and we should see what other websites/magazines have to say about the game.
