Indirect Fire Discussion
«
on:
February 26, 2009, 12:19:51 pm »
Last night on vent there was a few of us talking about who had the more annoying and unneeded indirect fire. People were from all 4 factions and good players, and we had Salan in the discussion with us. Thankfully the conversation got cut short once everyone had readied up. But here's some conclusions that were drawn by us.
As of right now allies has more and the better heavy artillery, these include the howitzer, priest, calliope, and 25 pounder. Now keep in mind all these except the 25 are doctrine specific units, so people expect them to be good. Allies don't have any medium arty, and they have the worst light arty with the US mortar, and the immobile mortar pit, which I haven't seen anyone use, so I can't say how it is in EiRR, but I've only heard complaints from reading about it.
Axis has only 1 heavy artillery piece, the hummel. They have 2 types of medium artillery, the nebel and the stuka, and they have the best light arty in the game with the whers mortar and the PEs mortar HT. Although 1 secrect weapon the axis have is a cloaked AT gun which can be used to spot.
And of course no one has any off maps, but salan was talking about once armies get their off maps in, things will balance out.
One thing that I think most players would agree on is that we don't want T4 arty like in EiRR. I'm thinking 1 T4 style arty for each faction, not like EiR where there was in the US tree one T4 arty in each doctrine. Nothing was more boring then playing a game against T4 arty infantry and AB company players who would blob their troops together and would win every engagement with a simple press of the "drop lots of death here" buttons they had.
I shall chime in a bit more later.

Stuka and Hummel are doc specific(at least in EiR, havent played Reinforcements yet).
Storms can scout but not paks, no one will be spotting/scouting w paks. Stukas are good but cost shit tons(metric)
(unless prices have dropped in EiRR).

offmaps will be used in an entirely new way with EIR:R.
Doctrines will unlock a offmap but get a minimal amount for that unlock, 1 in most cases.
After that fact extra uses can be PURCHASED at a PP cost per use.
This furthers the prestige system in needing to be prestigous to get what you want, as well as throws that definite knowledge of how many off maps a player has at their disposal out of the window. There will be a max amount you can buy of each type as well so you can't save up and buy 10 or something silly.
We have covered the angles as much as possible, and I we are working to not have the same repeats in offmap we saw in previous doctrines.
we'll make new mistakes instead

No, it's not. Accuracy is horrid with Priest. It spreads out at least over half (if not the entire screen) at mid-long range. Hummel is a good deal more accurate, and from what I've seen, it's shells do a bit more damage per strike.

I believe the damage is the same, but the reload for hummel is longer than for a Priest. Means more time for the inf to get out of the barrage. And the Priest has a higher suppression bonus.

The Hummel is 515mp and 480 fuel. And it's actually worse then the priest, Today i barraged a house with an MG, while maintaining LoS on it and the MG took 0 damage from a direct hit. The Hummel does have the highest dmg shells but it pays for it with fewer shots. my hummel is a bitch to vet

the mg taking 0 dmg isn't because of the hummel's accuracy, its probably something to do with the mg's incoming accuracy and dodging the damage, as silly as that is.
and yes slowpoke you did, took you forget though!

Well as I see it I see these basic advantages of each artillery piece.
If anybody has a Priest can you please post its cooldown timer for barrages?
Hummel-140 Second cooldown
-More accurate
-Can fire slightly faster during barrages ( Only when in lockdown, but who doesn't do it?)
-Does more damage
Priest-??? Cooldown
-Shoot more shells (6 Shells to 4)
-Move much faster (Also has complementary MG)
-Cheaper then the Hummel

That happens for my priest, too. Most often, I no longer do damage unless I knock the entire house down. I have yet to figure out why, though, since some of these MGs and other units are unvetted, even.

Also the Lock down ability "Rapid Fire Artillery" doesn;t actually reduce the cooldown, it simply increases the range

It shortens the reload between shells, not barrages.
Since no one wants to do it I'll post the differences.
Hummel
http://coh-stats.com/Vehicle:Hummel_Self_Propelled_Artillery
Fires 4 shells.
In Rapid fire mode this is the bonus
* Weapon Reload x 0.5
* Received Damage x 0.75
Dmg 200
Range Max 250 Min 35
Acc 100% at all ranges
Reload 5
Post Firing Aim Time 0
Suppression .001 (all ranges)
Priest
http://coh-stats.com/Vehicle:Priest_Self-Propelled_Artillery
Fires 6 shells.
Creeping Barrage is 6 shells. No Bonus (well...has longer range)
Dmg 200
Range Max 175 Min 80
Acc (SML) 0.75, 0.5, 0.25
Reload 2.5
Suppression .007
Creeping Barrage
Dmg 125
Range Max 250 Min 100
Acc (SML) 0.75, 0.5, 0.25
Reload 1.6
Suppression .007
Supercharge & Overwatch
Dmg 200
Range Max 250 Min 80
Acc (SML) 0.75, 0.5, 0.25
Reload 2.5
Suppression .007
I'm not debating either one, just posting the stats

no it doesn't obvously. I just got it from coh stats. The hummel outranges the priest and the 25 pounder when they dont have super charge.
