I know you were moving the forums around and I think this thread got lost because I couldn't find it. But if you could find it and combine this with it, that would be great =)

One thing I was thinking that would be a cool ability for artillery would be this. Something that all arty could get at say vet 3 maybe even mortars as well. Or could just be an ability from a tree. But this idea comes from the fact that when firing arty the first round or two would be "for effect" so the FO (forward observer) could give them new coordinates or tell them how to adjust.

Fire for effect: The first 3 shells out of the artillery piece land outside of the firing circle, but the last 3 all hit right around the middle with fantastic accuracy.

All you'd have to do is make the current firing circle for that weapon a little bit smaller, that way if you needed rounds to land on a fixed position, you could hit exactly where you need to. It wouldn't work so well with say AT guns or anything that can move because those first three shells will land outside the circle, giving them a chance to move. This is also the opposite of what you'd want against blobs.

Firing for effect means that the target coordinates are correct and they should continue to hit that spot, ranging shots are called "adjust[ing/ment] fire".

We are serious about enforcing this, and I am sure you all want to be able to have your balance thought considered by the development team with some biased, sensationalist coming into your thread and ruining it.

Yeah, the term fire for effect is the signal to bring Sea level a few feet closer to some bad people. What your thinking of would be spotting rounds and then walking them on target. Or bracketing, Although it would make for some cool sound clips on Units with artillery abilities.
