OK, so I recently played a game where both one of my lieutenants and a squad of mortar commandos made it to the vet 2 threshold and I'm wondering, is Vet 2 worth getting for either of them? I spoke to a Whermacht player on the client chat about it and he didn't seem to think so, proclaiming that British vet sucks...

So I ask, firstly, is vet 2 worth getting on Lts or mortar commandos and secondly, if British vet is indeed inferior to that of Amer/Wher/PE, why?

Also, what exactly are the advantages that a unit having veterency gives to it? This is becoming important for me as I now have quite a few squads with vet 1...

It all depends what type of company you are playing. Just because a Unit has a chance to get Vet 2, doesn't mean you should take it if it doesn't fit your company mould/play style.

British Vet doesn't suck, no vet benefits actually suck.

Quote
Mortar Commando (1.6)
-Vet1 Received Accuracy 0.8
-Vet2 Accuracy 1.15, Reload 0.8
-Vet3 Health 1.1, Cover Ability*, Range +10

Quote
Lieutenant (1.5)
-Vet1 Received damage 0.8, Regeneration (0.035)
-Vet2 Accuracy 1.2, Received Accuracy 0.8
-Vet3 Health 1.2, Assault Bonus*, Damage 1.2, Aura Radius +10

Well there you are... I knew I was right to be suspicious of a Wehrmacht player telling me that British vet sucked...

Well I have been learning to use both units to much better effect lately... Indeed, I'm starting to use most of my units to better effect now... I'm actually finding mortar commandos pretty handy... I think I might consider upping them...

As for the Lt., does his vet only effect him, or does it effect his command aura like it does in vCoH as well?

What's the name of the Wehr player who said that?

Eh... I don't remember... Any particular reason you want to know? Cheesy

But my question still stands, is vet 2 worth getting, generally speaking (that is, regardless of differing play styles), for Lts and mortar commandos?

We just like to identify the misinformed ones so we know who we can smash in games. Wink

Yes vet 2 is worth it for LTs and Commandos.

I like to have a little faith in humanity that one wouldn't be a jackass like that, but you bring a fine point to the table.

All sorts of commandos or just regular ones? I actually don't have PIAT commandos, but I've got MG and mortar ones in lieu of Vickers nest and mortar pit as well as normal commandos...

I suspected he might have been misleading me as well, which is why I came here before making a call... Besides, until I commit to giving either unit vet 2, I can still give them the upgrade at any time... It's not as if I'm going to delete them or anything... Smiley

All commandos are worth vetting, perhaps not the HMG commandos just yet, HMGs tend to die much easier.. which is a waste of PP since they fulfill the role quite effectively at vet 1.

I see... Well, I guess I'll vet the mortar commados and see how it goes... After all, vet 2 gives them both increased accuracy and firing rate, so that sound pretty good... Tell me though, does the increased rate increase the number of shots they fire during a barrage, or just the same number of shots in less time?

I don't know if it effects barrage, but it affects regular fire.

Well naturally... But even then the improved accuracy would help the barrage, particularly if I'm targeting something like a flak 88 or a building, right?

Typically Abilities aren't affected on units that have a normal firing apparatus.

Unlike artillery mortars have a regular fire mode that is different statistically than their barrage ability.

Oh great... I use barrage a lot... so that was a waste of a PP then...

Well we all use barrage a lot, but we can't always be there monitoring barrage on it, we have other things to do in the course of a battle. But having better accuracy is really nice when firing at lone targets that you need downed quickly.

Barrage works, but normally barrage is meant for killing off blobs and making the mortar fire faster than normally on targets like houses. But barrage will never be superior at attacking single targets like MGs on the road, or other mortars.

And I wouldn't expect it to be...

Attack ground has the same inaccuracy modifier as firing normally. If you obviously can't see the target, sure attack ground is more useful.

There's also the idea that brit vet sucks compared to oh say, spending PP on advantages or doctrine abilities.
