I've been thinking (Dangerous thing that, I know) and come to the conclusion that retreating infantry really is a (Relatively) risk free way to preserve your vet. Hell, if your in an engagement, as long as you press that big red button early enough your vet is saved regardless of how much crap they throw at you.

So, a simple idea to make people think twice about being trigger happy on their retreat button.

What if retreating gave enemy units within a pre-set distance around you, gave them about half of the exp worth of your unit? (Note, not YOUR exp, the exp worth for simply killing it)

It'll reward people who can force their enemy to retreat, and punish those who are far too quick on the trigger to retreat their precious vet. As it stands, there's really no reward for forcing your enemy to retreat (For your units) other than the fact that unit is out of action.

Thoughts?

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

I like the idea, though the current vet levels & vet gain rate aren't really designed for it. (i.e units would be gaining vet a lot faster) And it wouldn't make a difference for tanks. (Which puts AT units at a disadvantage)

personally i think it would work better if it was just half the xp of the unit value especially considering some of the 400xp units out there. (not to mention potential abuse of said feature)

Although to be honest the main reason i would say no to hicks idea is primarily due to the 1v1 exploiting of this feature

1 v 1's are a cess pit of exploitation anyway - That's really not an argument tbh.

I had thought about tanks... But I'm struggling to come up with a way to have a system like this work for them. This is why I asked for thoughts. :p

Why not just make it a set amount of XP. Make it depend on squad size; if you retreat with a full squad you lose as much XP as that unit is worth (6 XP in the case of rifles, for example). If you retreated with one man left, a risky venture, you'd only lose 1 XP. This suggestion, however, would have a large impact on retreating NCU that rely on the +3 XP feautre to get any vet at all.

You should get xp for other stuff than not killing, no doubt. Like sweepin mines, clearing howitzers and emplacements. I think all decrewed weapons give 0 xp now Sad (old chaneg afaik), only the crew members give xp.

But just for retreating? I dunno man. BAR rifles often end up getting few kills because simply retreat from supression.  I dont think this is really necessary,.

Losing exp is counter-productive tbh. Gains are always a better incentive than losses. If I was vet whoring, I wouldn't care if my squad was at 3 out of 6 men... It'd just mean vet whoring would take a bit longer.

On the other hand, if I think I'm gonna start handing my enemy exp by retreating early... Screw that.

Smokaz, I never really understood why the removed exp from destroying equipment tbh. There's a finite amount of support teams that can be called on. It seems like quite a knee jerk reaction that we all rolled with.

is there a way to gain experience just for hitting something? that's a way you can have at units be affected

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

Getting vet for doing "damage" would be great, but seems impossible

They removed it because of a 8 minute long 2v2 I played vs bigdick and aloha on RTC.

I artied their mortar with a 105. This upset them so much that they then called out all their support weapon stuff, decrewed them and shot it with their tanks. They cannabilized themselves before pulling off, so to speak.

But yeah perhaps it ended up being inflexible and harsh, destroying enemy support weapons (not your own) is perhaps too hard to code as a exclusive xp gain but definitely makes sense as a action that should be rewarded.

As I thought, a knee-jerk reaction.

Rather than slap about the twats that exploited the mechanic, they removed a good gameplay mechanic for everybody.

Should have wiped their companies of vet for that tbh.

smokaz is right, people would also argue who got to kill support weapons left over towards the end of the battle, and you would have people destroying things that other people wanted to recrew.

i actually really like volks idea, also units would get the initial +3xp from coming on the field then if they retreat they lose that and maybe a little more xp as well.

i doubt it's possible but for infantry it would be cool if manually retreating, ie walking to spawn and hitting the grey retreat button on the side would make it so you keep all vet, but hitting the actual run away retreat button would make them lose vet.

also i agree with smokaz clearing mines, placing mines, all these kinds of things should give xp.

also NCU units such as mine sweepers could say get +5xp when coming on the field that way when they retreat they still keep the 3 XP they got for coming on.

i disagree in the losing xp from retreating it just doesnt make sense. Especailly since retreating a full squad is already a penalty in its self

Valid point. Frankly, I say leave the vet. Its the point of the mod, and you can still lose the vet on retreat--thats why people spam bikes or jeeps, to hunt the squad as it runs.

i look at it this way, it is demoralizing to the troops to retreat.

also does it make sense for a squad to get xp from simply walking onto the battlefield?

+1

I actually like this idea a lot.

I will look into this as an extension for later, and investigate possible implementations in different ways (Losing xp on retreat, giving xp to close units etc) - and gauge what people would like.
