In real life the Puma uses the same gun a panzer four has.

75mm vs 37mm

The Puma gun is twice as big is the stuart gun and don't tell me it's low velocity because it also seems to be twice as long.

Schwerer Panzerspähwagen
Heavy Armored Recon Vehicle

The Sdkfz 234/1  is the base "Puma" in CoH.
These mounted a 20mm autocannon that could tear up all lightly armored vehicles the Allies fielded.  This includes many self propelled guns like the Priest and I think the M10 (at least the turret) as well.

The Sdkfz 234/2 Puma is the "Upgunned Puma" in CoH.
These mounted a high velocity 50mm cannon that could take down nearly all Allied armor short of some models of Churchill, the Sherman 'Jumbo', and the Pershing.

Speaking of the 'Jumbo'  I don't understand why they didn't add that instead of the Pershing.

Realism and balance do not mix well.  I was just trying to give a mini history lesson.

But on that note, I really with that the Puma's upgun did more AT damage. As it is now, there is no reason to take it: it costs too much, loses a lot of anti-infantry capability, and yet gains so significant AT ability.

you're doing it wrong! upgunned puma usually snipes 1 infantry every 2 shots, and is great AT support if you have a pak or some schrecks backing it up. plus it wins vs m8s, and can take down HTs well.

Except the puma wasn't all that great.  It had a high profile and was quite large for an recon vehicle.   Its armor sucked so a puma and a M8 can both kill each other easilly.  But the M8 had nearly twice the operational range, had a much lower profile, and was faster.   In fact in a vehicle to vehicle engagement, the puma was at such a disadvantage that the wehrmarcht prohibited the puma from engaging other armored recon units(like the M8).   Its 20mm gun however was great against infantry and unarmored vehicles.

The 50mm puma gun was not sufficient to engage regular tanks like the sherman, only tankettes like tetrarchs and light vehicles.  In addition, it was judged a failure and Germany ceased production on the puma after the 1944.   The 50mm gun made the puma crew act like light tanks rather than armored recon units, which usually ended badly for the puma.

The 75mm high velocity gun was only added when Germany was basiclly desperate for any sort of AT weapon and was on the verge of complete collapse.

All in all, puma with anything but the 20mm gun was a failure, and you can argue that even with the 20mm gun it wasn't a good vehicle.   The M8 fulfilled the armored recon role much better, while American tank destroyers like the M18 were far superior vs tanks and were just as fast.

Please, please, please read the OP once.
JUST ONCE!!!
READ IT!!!

The poll is about a 20 mm puma beating a stuart. Which happens quite a lot.

I still want my Sd.Kfz 232 recon car. 20mm cannon, radio array for capturing sectors, giant sight radius... poor armor... :p
