Idea for a Airborne Officer
«
on:
August 23, 2009, 07:07:36 pm »
Since officers and leadership units seem to be very popular atm and its almost starting to look like every doctrine is getting one I got an idea for a airborne officer.
I call him the Airborne Sarge, since "sarge" sounds more americanish than liutnant.
Hp of the british captain, comes with a thompson. Can buy a pineapple for rifle price.
150MP/75MUN
- Grants a recon run on a 5 minute cooldown.
- Has Heroic charge at vet 1

I also have the idea for the gamesguy officer:
- Bald man with a trekkie uniform
- Same health and armor as the kettenkrad
- Equipped with a long range pillow throwing weapon
- 100 munitions cost for a laptop enables the "negative post" ability: lock down the officer to make him log into the EIRR forums and post a mean reply to someone

If I get shot and it's a gay medic fixing me up, he's not gonna be fondling my balls while he does it. You can't patch a chest wound and suck a cock at the same time.

Even better, the AB officer should BE the strafing run. Strafing run would call in a P47 with chuck norris sitting on the wings headshotting everyone with his colt as he flies past.
Bombing run would be the officer farting and then lighting it on fire.

I'll tell you all an idea about officers that REALLY makes sense...
With all these officers and nonsense running around, who's telling me there aren't a few bad apples in the mix? You know, that one horrible-ass officer with relatives in high places who's just punching his time card on the frontlines to pad his resume? Good leaders are hard to come by, and I fear that this mod is giving a woefully inaccurate impression of the abundance of good leadership in the military ranks.
I propose that to really make officers accurate, we implement a 35% chance at the start of every game that instead of your nice, courageous, effective officer, you get one hell of a useless mother %&$*##. I mean this guy will be one impotent clown: he'll dissapear randomly throughout the battle and you won't be able to find him, break under pressure and order all your troops on suicide missions, and sow panic and dissaray amongst your ranks.
The best part is, you won't even know which kind of officer you have until shit hits the fan.
Stats:
-When you hit heroic charge, you get the opposite effect. All nearby troops slowed down, pinned automatically, and take extra damage.
-Units near the captain/officer which suffer a casualty must pass a 10% chance of suffering the effects of vcoh propaganda.
- All call-in off-map artillery made by the officer/captain will fall in precisely the wrong location to the one you clicked, due to the incompetent map-reading/co-ordinate finding nature of your man.
-All airborne units on the map suffer a -90% range reduction with RR's (this abillity is endemic to all captains/officers from all 4 armies).
Perfect!

Every doctrine needs to get ~three different officers: one offensive, one defensive, and for healing.
Officers will level with your profile (so if you're level 6, so is your officer). He'll automatically be granted new abilities for free as you level, as a reward, and to make him more powerful. You'll be able to highly customize him, not only with new weapons + abilities, but also with new armor and even purely ascetic changes!
Every now and again the Mods should post a quest (ie kill 20 basic infantry with your officer, get the final kill on a lgiht vehicle with your officer, etc), and the first few to complete this should get a special reward (perhaps PPs and a special forums avatar).
And officers should play a major role in the game, not just supporting units. Perhaps they could have much more HP/armor than they do currently, and come standard with an MP44 or LMG, not just a pistol.
Leading your troops around the map, you'll have to destroy special mortar bunkers in order to push the enemy back to their spawn (with could be represented with a depot or refinery, perhaps).
Just some ideas, feel free to discuss.

LOL please tell me you're joking. That sounds like Assault. I really really really would hate to see EIR develop into that. Officers are already a bad idea, and giving every faction a bunch of them just makes things worse. Besides it starts to get unRTS-like when you focus too much on one unit (officers).
Just keep Defensive officer with his normal supervision and Brit Lts and Captains from vcoh

how about a jeep for the airborne that acts like a jeep with more health and a better .30 cal weapon that acts like half a .30 cal hmg and gives defensive bonuses rather than offensive. Maybe like incoming accuracy and its special ability would be like ftfl that would give say a temporary 50% health buff or something like that.

Because a forum post should be like a woman's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

Huh, Airborne getting an Officer... Cool idea... or not? The only thing I can only think of now is kinda weird (low) availability of my troops, im not sure if those AB rifles are worth 3 availability points and a T3...
(maybe giving them SF back would help?
) But back on topic: add an Officer on top of that and basically Axis companies will overwhelm AB comapnies with 4x AB + 4x AB Rifles + Officer in terms of Infantry (well, AB got only 10 avail points for armor resulting in only 2 Shermans - as for AI use) 'cause AB Rifles really aren't thaaat good (not sayin' they're useless).. I can't even spend all my resources without oversupplyin - resulting in light vehicle spam which I really don't want
Sure, you don't have to buy AB Rifles and an (possible) Officer.. but, oh well.. hopefully they're gonna change this Availability system for AB doc a bit

We need a new discussion about a airborne officer or new low pop infantry unit, since Airborne is highly likely to be revamped to make it better.
