I'm the brain but more specifically the observer.
I play with the same allied players for a couple of times to try to learn how they play then I try to think like they do to predict assaults. It's surprisingly successful. A quote from Robert Redford in one of his movies was "One thing about playing chess is that the opponent likes to do the same moves every game." I usually fight defensively because I am pretty good at predicting what the opponents are going to do. Sometimes I act as a muscle "usually with arty" just because there are times when that's needed more than the brain. It's good to hit the enemy hard when they are at their weakest.
Well that's just how I play.

I think I'd be brains, even though i am usually following commands that a better player gives me.
I like to watch what my team and the enemy is doing then make my moves from there. I'll move up an open flank and cap, or go up and lay mines. I often am more of a supporting player bringing arty and such. I usually don't lead an assault, I'll have a calli on field rather than a pershing, and an 88 and stuka rather than a panther. i always have lots of nilla infantry for picking weapons up and will move behind the main force.

definitely the muscle. i can do pretty good if someone else provides the brains or if there's nothing but more brutes around. but if i'm stuck witch someone who is neither muscle or brains i suck beyond recognition. i guess that's where the brains refuse to kick in.
on the other hand, some of my worst moments on eir were with guys who thought they were the brain when they were not...
