Yeah, id agree with that. Combination of no updates, no balance changes, then we get free doctrines and all those still left try out their gimmick and spam companies until they've done every build and then they leave too. That's where we got the 25%.

It wasnt just straight free doctrines. This also doesnt mean that we should have them be free tho, because this was a compounding problem, best not to reintroduce back a part of what made us lose the 25%.

As killer said before, everyone will just build bullshit super companies tailored to their friends and go fuck wild for a few weeks.

In the meantime, every single new newb that is curb-stomped during this period of time will Not come back or choose to ride out the storm, and on top of the people that get bored from free doctrines, we have lost a bunch of potential player base.

Oh and btw, keeps is fucking Win with this.

the reason there isnt a big response is because people who are new consider it a beta without much in it. when people who've been in the community a while know it's all being built up towards the warmap etc, we have anticipation whilst newcombers dont have much of an idea whats going on let alone what kind of changes and exciting things are heading this way. the only reason our player base isnt growing is because people struggle to setup and dont have the anticipation we have. the first bad experience will spread bad word and more than likely not make the player in question want to attempt to give the mod a second chance.

Bringing in free doctrines now will just unwravel everything that has been done in the past couple months. It will compound the problem, then noobs leave; our player base gets smaller.

We got the ball rolling with the new launcher and stuff is happening and it's going to take a community effort to keep things moving.

Sitting here talking about fucking grind is not helping, and you are not helping. Ive played 3 games this entire week, dont make it an issue. Maybe if people played others their own level instead of railroading new players, they would level up their company the way it supposed to be leveled and do it in half the games.

Instead I see crack axis/allied teams goading always4vs4loseguy and his other random band of noob friends into quick stomp games because they are so fucking impatient and do not actively search out for games of their level. If you are so fucking impatient with the grind, this is the absolute worst thing you can do, tbfh, and you only have yourself to blame.

I can pick every one out by name.

The only thing that needs to be done IMO, is a reduction in EXP for obtaining company levels, other than that, stfu and let EIRRMOD do his thing.

Tbh, absolutely all of this shit that everyone has questions over are answered in the EIRR Developmental podcast that I put up yesterday.

Nearly no one has listened to it yet. The answers are there.

I cant post stuff on the front page, it is in the news section of the fourms, and EIRRMOD told me it would be in the scrolling ticker of the launcher.

I just hope the reduced grind doesn't mean free doctrine choices, ever. Part of the allure of persistency-style gaming is after all that promise of reward for your effort. While a match can be entertaining in it's own right, I can have more fun knowing that "this will help me get that doctrine unlock" or even "because I got that unlock that enables me to do something that my opponent cannot because he hasn't got a corresponding unlock yet". For me personally, playing a company tends to get pretty old in a fairly short while once I've got all the unlocks and advantages. This isn't true for everyone, of course, but I doubt I'm the only one who would play EiR a lot less if doctrines were free.

While parallels to MMORPGs should be handled with extreme care (this is after all a completely different type of game), I still think they show how much of a motivational factor this can be for people. Take a look at http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001300.php for instance.
