So with COHO finally confirmed and including the original COH for free, given the state of mods like EIR and OMG what do you assume will happen when a product with much more availability but perhaps not as much depth as existing mods comes out? Will mods fizz out before the professional coders? Or maybe mods will grow with the free nature of COH, allowing the community to expand?

Discuss.

If anything, this defines and seperates our audience from the normal smut of vire river noob players, and after the initial effect of of CoH:O has warn off, we can present them with a better product, and they would be receptive to it.

We could have some competition. obviously a good proactive approach is to implement something totally new that is not seen in COHO and advertise it.

This update for a new COH will revitalize the community

Will CoHO allow the users to play other mods?

They could've done so much more with their 'persistency' ambitions, yet they settled with an Age of Empires 3 'Hometown' like persistency aspect.

So if I get this right, COH:O is going to be free with microtransactions for multiplayer?
I guess there really wouldn't be any reason for anyone to buy the original COH anymore, unless they are really keen on its multiplayer aspect. (Which according to the new Relic COH team 'sucks') It will make things much harder for mods, which rely on streams of new players.

Also will they even continue to support RO for COH if COHO is ever available worldwide?

As far I can see its only a single unit that will actually be "persistent" and it alone levels up. Auto-matching will be based on the level of this unit Undecided

They would have been much better of allowing the player to choose a doctrine before hand and to vet the entire army calling them on the same way a single missions i.e. from the barracks at additional cost.

i played the chineese coh online beta more then 1 year ago a lot and the persistence was not that different from eir like you get PPs for doctrine unlocks

only real persistence difference is the veteran system
and veterancy can't be always considered as positive

the automatch system was strange back in beta days because participants actually saw each other and where able to see the stats and could quit the automatch system Cheesy

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I didn't see much wrong with CoH multiplayer that CoHO would fix.  It's been awhile since I played in the Chinese CoHO beta, but wasn't it just that your commander would level up...and everything else was pretty much normal CoH?

http://www.companyofheroes.com/

Answers some questions.

Also, since CoH:O doesn't offer British and PE and will probably not support mods I guess the original COH franchise might still draw in some new players. .

By the way, their new forums are probably the best place to advertise EIR:R atm lmao.

Why the heck would they ever make CoH free? Stupid tbh, going MMO style with CoH is a terrible idea, and I saw nothing wrong with Company of heroes current online multiplayer.

There are already some CoHO things in the CoH files. Theres the Blackout ability in the rgd's and what they have labeled as a shotgun but it doesn't seem to link to a unit or anything.

Some of the stuff they have floating in there looks neat though

Yes it is. Just because you can buy stuff doesn't mean you have to.

That's actually how it works. You choose a doctrine and then you get upgrades for said doctrine just like in EiR.

Will CoHO allow the users to play other mods?

That has actually not been revealed but let's assume yes for the sake of the discussion.
