How can you call a sniper OP? it can be countered by simply walking a riflesquad in it.
if it's supported you use your AB rifles with fireup or some jeep spam.

Just because you can't click the little icon on the left that shows where it is or dont hear any gunsound doesnt mean you can't find it.
you'll still see the sniper itself with the huge icon above it. at least the "no cloak after 1st shot while in cover" makes you enemy actually think for a second where it is.
the abilities it has now are more there just to make this work. i never use that popup on the left and i always know exactly where my opponent's sniper is.
compare the alternative a terror player can get: KING TIGER.
you'll need some cool stuff if you want players to convince to take the other t3.
btw, firestorm as a t3 seems pretty weak. might make it 3 uses max?

If the sniper didn't decloak after the first shot while in cover - it should retain it's ability to not give off an indication of sniping someone. Frankly because sniping someone and not decloaking, but the unit sniped! indicator still showing where you are is blatantly useless.
So both buffs being applied to the unit, with a 50-75 percent chance to headshot seems about reasonable.

Ive got to say I agree with that overall, totally removing the chance to headshot...I can see it being lame, combined with a pretty damn hard to find sniper.
What do people think of the alternative vet suggestions I made in the first post? I think they are kinda flavorful, but does anyone think they are potentially imbalanced?

What I think should be done:
New unit, unique veterancy tables, 30% chance to not land a crit. If it stays at 50% the price should stay the same as the regular. Gains an extra shot ability that leaves him cloaked with 100% chance of crit.

What would the cooldown of the "stealth" shot ability be in your opinion, and by regular cost do you mean 200 munitions?
I quite like your idea as well tbh, just needs fleshing out somewhat.
*question for mods- did this kind of process take place in mod forums? because IMO it should happen for most of the high tier abilities. ( though it would seriously retard doctrine finalization)

Doctrine finalisation will follow after the implementation. The implementation was done with a specific design in mind, followed by a series of discussions on a number of abilities that were considered 'problematic' or undesirable in the drafts.
There will probably still be a lot of fine-tuning and ability make-overs when we hit the finalisation stage.

Yeah it pretty sucks that mirror balancing is the way to help axis, marksman shot on grenadiers come on... I'd rather see something new.

I would suggest to leave the crit as it is and just make him pay for munitions. (75 muni maybe?) I'd also suggest to give him 1 shot where he stay cloaked and make the snipe dmg higher so he can kill an officer. Not much use to it if its only to silently kill 1 rifleman.

does it mean the rifleman dont shout SNIPER~!!!?
well u dont really need that message if the sniper still makes that HUGE firing sound. isn't a silenced rifle?
changing the gunsound to something like a single US 30cal bullet would help this ability a lot in all ways.

No it doesn't. It means his rifle performs just like any other, not the sniper rifle. It fits perfectly with the removal of the 'unit sniped'.

Hans holds a K98 that fires with normal K98 sound, which is completely ubiquitous in any normal game and impossible to distinguish from normal gun fire. The K98 sound is also very quiet, plus his gun has no tracer.

nice to hear you have something planned for this t3.
but adding some ability will hardly change the way the unit is used, even if it's on a very low cooldown.
it also adds more micro to a unit that's already so hard to keep alive.
