Hey guys,

I absolutely hate asking for help, but I've found myself in the situation of being unable to find work in my area (NKY).  I've fired my resume off to over 130 prospective jobs over the course of this year, as well as applied to local businesses, even retail stores and restaurants, but have been unable to find employment.

I previously worked as a retail satellite store manager in the pool business for 7 years; I thought this would give me a leg up on finding work, but I'm either "overqualified" or there are no positions available.

My question is, does anyone have insight to where I should look to find a job?  No kidding, I can't even get hired by fast food.  It's seriously a joke.  I'm to the point of soon losing my car and apartment.  Just wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion (outside of the military).

I apologize if this is offensive to anyone; as i understand, some people who are working can be offended by someone who claims they can't find work.

It's been a lot of fun playing EiR with all of you, win or lose.  Great mod, great community.

My thanks,

-iggi   (bobby)

Hey dude, im sorry to hear your issue. I honestly recommend if your having that much trouble look to another city maybe you can make even more money else where where there might be more business. I know its tough especially losing the family support bit moving might be the only answer.

Good Luck

Im in sorta the same boat.

Gonna graduate from college in a semester with an english degree in a recession. Im fucked.

Ive not been able to find a steady job for almost 2 years.

Honestly, national guard sounds like a quick fix for you. Not full army, but you get some income.

Either that or a federal job of some kind. Post office, something like that.

Yea, I hate to say it, go into the Military, reserve components work just fine for a 6mo fix. The problem is finding work again when you get out.

I can't even volunteer for a deployment because they are waay over on the number of people wanting to go.

Finding work is a bitch right now.

Yeah listen to these guys. 40K for being in the reserve and later small bonuses for participating in drills is great.

Sorry to hear about your job loss, but without knowing your specific situations I doubt there is much anybody here can do to help.  I found this article listing companies that are hiring this month if that helps.

http://www.careerbuilder.com/Article/CB-1312-Job-Search-Companies-Hiring-This-Month/?ArticleID=1312&cbRecursionCnt=1&cbsid=a64afa8ef6d4491bb3337d7b6af55059-332296647-R8-4&ns_siteid=ns_us_g_industries_hiring_rig_

Other than that, your best bet is either the military reserve or some kind of public sector job.  Companies are hiring temp workers, so maybe a temp agency can help.

Gamesguy;

Thanks for that link.  Never seen this site before.
Worth thumbing through for a few hours.

Tym, Groundfire.  Best of luck to you both.  Hope your situations are better than mine.

Cheers,

-ig

p.s.

My thanks to you guys for your support.

I'd been told about reserve before but i'm trying to go to school at NKU in the fall and wasn't sure if that would interfere.  Guess I have some research to do.

Thanks again fellas.

You should head overboard. I mean if you can't find employment in your own country you should head to another state or to another country. Not mexico because coporations there hire only uneducated cheap labor. Instead you should try Europe for example.

Ain't a stereotype only it actually did work like that. US coporations along with asian ones invested a lot of facilities to mexico to use the cheap labor to make productions :p

Before you make the decision to join the military at a point where we are about 2 seconds away from going to war with the most militarized country in the entire world (NKorea), I would agree with the idea of trying a different city.
