My first mapping attempt and I need a little help. Right now I've got an Idea for an Arden(my spelling sucks) forest map with "VERY" restricted movement(for tanks) and los. I've made a preliminary version but finding it to be a little small for 3v3, and forest can be incredably boring. Right now I'm looking for ideas to spicen up the map a bit.
I'll post screenies of what I've got so far after work.

well, make a cabin here and there. Add a few tank/plane wrecks. Maybe a small stream? Abandoned ruins. Tons of splats, craters the list goes on.

I highly suggest using Google Earth to help get inspiration. There are fairly high-res images for much of France and Germany. I am using an image from Google Earth in my
first map
.
I have also attached a .zip of two pages of printable grid lines that correspond to the 32m gridlines on a 256x512 map. I found it useful to print a grid and plot out a map on that.
Here is an example:

For the Map I'm just starting I'm trying to make a map that is the outskirts of a town with quite a few buildings and some fields that are just outside the town. Also a road coming into the town and splitting off to go to other areas.

One thing to keep in mind for people starting new maps is to avoid straight lines wherever possible. For those of us used to the ever present grid layout of American towns and cities, we often forget that many areas in Europe are very twisty and turny (especially in 1944-45). Try to have roads curve around obstacles and avoid straight lines in road and building layouts. Just breaking up symmetry and curving things a little can add a ton of realism to a map layout.
@Ucross: I totally agree. A wilderness map sounds really exciting. I think you could make up for the lack of buildings and walls by using steep terrain, streams, and knots of forest. I would also consider putting a few bunkers in the woods to give some building cover. Though what I really would love to do would be to make a snowy battle of the bulge map, but I suppose that will have to wait until a later expansion pack that includes winter.

Could you make a map with a river running through an urban area. It would fit in well with Operation Market-Garden.

I have tried to build a map but im no good at it.
I would love to see a map where the defenders spawn in the center in a city, and the attackers (4 v 4) spawn either on either end outside the city in the forest (ie ampm lambert forests), if the map is long and narrow like rails and metal (2 on each end) or one on each side of the map if its 624/624..
this would cause the defenders (is it possible to switch team starting sides in EiR i can't remember seeing that function anymore) always start in the middle and are forced to fight for their life. Can be used on maps where the sector gets cut off and surrounded, very very cool.
it would seriously force users to understand the life and death of defense in the fact it is IMPOSSIBLE to not be spawn camped on something like this, but its a last ditch effort after all.

Has anyone considered making a map with an uneven number of players? I envision a 2v3 or 3v4 map that gives the smaller side a terrain advantage. Eventually, the warmap will lead to uneven games so perhaps it would be interesting to try maps specifically designed with that in mind?

you can't make games with uneven number of players yet, atleast on the battle creator ..
i guess you COULD create a 3 vrs 3 and someone not play, but that would be silly as they would get the CPS and vet loss for losing and resources for winning..
hmmm
