Summary for why M10 is better than Sherman currently

1. Heavies laugh at Sherman penetration tables
2. Players have become sufficiently skilled with schrecks and paks
3. Current common battle field opponents are

a. Tiger/King Tiger/Jagdpanther
b. Elite Inf spam + Pak
c. Medium Tank with Grens
d. Standard PE counters (50mm AT HT, Marder)

4. Current player mentality appears to "slug it out" in a big massive fight, which Shermans are definitely gonna lose in a shot for shot exchange.

M10 is better because
i. Dodging shots is better than being able to eat shots
ii. You don't need a lot of munitions to make it effective (cheaper repair, no need for 50cal. Squish squish works wonders)
iii. Cheaper Manpower & Fuel
iv. Able to reliably penetrate Medium Tanks and above
v. High mobility for hit and runs and fast response
vi. Better than Rifle + ATG call in at 10 pop. Comparable range, higher mobility, very tough against infantry (fausts and schrecks are your only worry)

I run a 6x M10 company (went on 8 before) currently and it is extremely successful. No ATGs at all.

Tactics for M10 usage
1. Use with jeep. Jeep scouts, M10 snipes thanks to 45 range (right?)
2. Hit and Run against super heavies
3. Call in 3 M10s when at 30 pop to eliminate ALL tank opposition (only when KTs are around)
4. General multipurpose AT.

kind of agree.

which is why i think m10 are way better AT weapons than m18s.  The flanking ability and speed alone is pretty good. But the m10s cant hit inf. In my HVAP company i prefer several M10s instead of shermans and pershing.

m18s on the other hand make good ambush weapons with cheap mines, and the tactic of placing them behind or in front of ATGs worked in the past for me.

But in my TR company i do depend on ATGs. and jumbo can now do damage to tanks.

Good AT tactic im trying is Half Track with 2 inf w/ Zooks and stickies. TR ability helps with this tactic. Not sure what i can do with Rangers now, 2 zooks and 2 stickies seem way more effective than 4 zooks.

^I've tried the Ami clowncar strat, all it ends up doing is getting gibbed when the HT dies or an MG42/flame pio kills all of the occupants immidiately after they exit.

I use shermans quite often, and prefer them to M10s because of their versatility--inf crush is great, but tends to get gibbed by a waiting pak, which the inf was bait for... I guess it's player preferance, but M10s have allways been way too flimsy for my taste. Even when moving some ungodly form of hidden ninja axis AT rips ye olde ph41l prowler to shreds.

On the note of the m18, people always want to buff/lower its damage tables (patch dependant), why not making tougher (+50HP?) and/or faster (gives the americans some good mobile AT staying power and makes the m18 useful for something without insane weapon buffs).

M18's are junk atm. I've attempted using them extensively and most WM companies will tear you to shreds, where as it would be more cost effective to run M8's to counter a PE company.

Use them sparingly, as a novelty unit. M10's are superior in everything but sight range... However, due to the piss poor penetration, even with ambush, the M18 hardly can say it has an advantage by having the extra sight.

M10's vs Shermans though... If you're against heavy armour, M10's. Otherwise, Shermans will hold their own nicely.

Thats true, but no one's really running P4s much nowadays and even if they do, a M10 still performs better against them at lowered cost. Plus you don't get murdered by marauding elite inf.

Eh, I run a 5 sherman (4 shermans + croc) AB company and I have never felt the need for M10's. Even with Inf, Jumbo's require almost the same MU as M10's so why not?

Maybe if I was a lvl 5 or 6 armour company i'd consider them Tongue

i vetted a few m18s before. Man they take a huge speed or acceleration bonus.

Not sure what the stats state. Shame m10s are fragile as hell. And their range for an AT weapon are lacking actually.

Still one of the few better tanks against heavy armor.

I only bring them out for retreating tanks.

M10s are indeed fragile, rather take a sherman for its survivability and versatility than an M10, which is a one trick pony that you really can't mess up with due to the obscene damage the thing takes when it, and it doesn't get a dodge bonus being a tank.

Ask axis players, what are they more scared of.... 8 m10s or 8 shermans, I'm pretty sure most will lean towards the sherman.  Anyone stupid enough to run over inf with M10s is going to get punished by PE with 20MU AT nades or destroyed by basic AT support from Wehr.  It's like those silly people who try to run over inf with a stug and they lose a stug and cry about it.

depends on who is using the m10s and as what faction you play on axis

there are people playing eir who get 10++ inf kills on m10s easy and making retreat multiple squads

(beside its excellent AT capabilities)

I'm more scared of the volks, tbh. They're actually able to faust me, and their 40 total rifles and the possibility of 8 uses of assault is fucking scary.

8 LMG grens will die horribly to a single greyhound. Or M10, for that matter.
