Ah the good old smurf debate.

I suppose we could just enable forum accounts being displayed on your hover-over in the battle room, but that really wouldn't stop some of the more hardcore smurfs who use multiple accounts. And like has been pointed out many times now, the problems of smurfing and dodging are very closely interlinked. Only automatch is the 'true' solution. (Although in a small community even automatch has its flaws)

Anyway, it's a healthy discussion to be had as a community, so carry on.

Well smurfing is not the main issue, people are just being overly-dramatic.

The problem is how hard it can be to identify players cause everyone has different profile names and remembering all of those can be a pain in the ass. Something like forum names in launcher would come a long way.

Well, tying profile names to forum names for some people will result in a lot of 'getting dodged' and exponentially increased waiting times. So really, my point is that it's a double edged sword at the moment, someone will always lose.

i have no problem with people creating a diff alias, my issue is when I ask if they are a smurf and they don't tell you and then later you find out.

Or if you join the game with a new guy thinking that you're going to help him learn how to play and someone with a smurf joins in so they can hunt vet or just try to embarrass you with some spam or bs tactic, thats when i dont like smurfs

sometimes its funny when longtime players expect to play against new players but get disappointed by playing some smurfs 


imho smurfing prevents random guys being stacked continuously

that does not need to be a "team stack" can be a random stack too

Whichever long term solution you do go for, bare in mind there are a couple of us who do play CoH in the same household.

Most common example being myself and Rayze/105TigerHunters. One forum account per IP would royally screw us two over.

I honestly don't mind people that smurf. Just wish there was a way to know who they are according to their Forum. Makes me sad when I don't know who they are because I can't say Hi <Insert name here> and have a friendly chat with them. Sadly, This defeats the point of smurfing though so it kinda won't work :<
Also, Some people just want new names because they get bored with their old names or just want to mix shit up a little, Like Me
Although I try and go out of my way when I make a new name so people know who I am (Hell, look at my Sig and it kinda proves my point...)

So yeah, Imho, Smurfing doesn't really matter that much. Just fight the names you don't know as best as you can. Saves you being dicked by a smurf and whining about. Just a bit unlucky if you just roflstomped a new guy though :/

Smurfing can be quite annoying at times. It's annoying to join a match with people you do not know (the best kind of match), when in reality they turn out to be the same guys who've played this game for 2+ years and synchronized all their companies and everything, turning what could have been a moderately enjoyable match into a cluster****.

I think in those situations other arrangements will be made by the Dev team. Any sign of a possible abuse and a permanent ban could be handed out - one option.
