Hey guys,

Just putting some feelers out on what you guys would think of a 2v2 tournament. Teams could be selected randomly or chosen by players. If random, it might be possible to get every player in the tournament to enter 5 of their respective currency in a donation to EIRR for being such a great mod with a small prize going to the winner, or we could use overall entry to go to first, second and third placed teams, or if you guys can't afford it, we could just do it for the ego trip!

The advantage of random teams is that it'd create a better playing field and higher quality, closer matches than if the teams were randomly selected (eg. Deadbolt + skaffa vs failguy12 + pointpaktospawnman) and we could use a seeding process to determine the quality of players if  necessary I suppose. Of course, i've got a few people interested in helping with the monitoring process of this to assure it all runs smoothly. It'd run over the course of a month or two depending on interest.

Fitting with the random theme, we could assign you a faction and doctrine too. There are too many players that only play axis/only play allies. Putting people out of their comfort zones is always fun. I mean, we can all use enigma decoded and win 100 games in a row, or we could try something different Smiley.

Once again, all in alpha stages, but this would pass the time to the warmap, and give some of you guys massive ego boosts (or take down people a few pegs  Grin).

Please list below your interest as to whether you'd like to participate in such a tournament.

I'm not sure people would be thrilled to play in a tournament with a random teammate. Unless all participating players are more or less on the same level. Essentially, 2vs2s are all about skill, good communications and company synergy, so I'm not sure you'd really be able to achieve that with random team compositions. Yes, it's true that with arranged teams you'd have the usual suspects coming out on top, but that's the whole point of a tournament, isn't it? (Getting the best teams in EIR to fight each other for the title of best 2vs2 team, not what happened to be the most lucky 'team draw'. I.e Keeps may get a lucky match with someone like Skaffa while Smokaz could end up having to play with failguy547)

Also, past experiences with tournaments have pretty much shown us that running them over a longer period of time usually results in serious failure. (The last eir tournament attempted to have a tournament in the course of a month) This due to the mess that is time-zones and inter-team communication. If a tournament drags on, eventually everyone will get tired of it before it even finishes.

Hence I think a tournament that is held in a 2 day (over a weekend for example) period max is by far the most ideal option. You'd set the hours before hand, so everyone who will be participating will know exactly when they are expected to play and when the finals are supposed to take place. (Making sure that they keep the entirety of those 2 days free to play in the event they reach the finals)

Me and Ground have been wanting to throw another tournament of the likes for some time now, so if there is a large enough community interest we can definitely take it on and help you guys with everything you may need.

if you put random teams, people will complain they got bad teamate...if teams are not random, only few people who can win, like skaffa/keeps/myst/cloud etc.

Unkn0wn, teams would be chosen before games would be played so players could talk to each other, play together a little bit and develop some teamwork and communication, get to know other players a bit better, players that you might not play with too often. Wicky suggested a seeding style process, where you seed players on their known abilities to play. We could simulate a reasonable draw. This doesn't mean that the best of the best would be playing with the worst of the worst, this just ensures that the two best players won't be put together.

Having the usual suspects playing would force some players to not even bother entering, which is what i'd like to avoid. I'd like to present every participant with the same chance of winning, no matter who you are. Good players will adapt and work with new players to build a 2v2 presence that is strong. A good player doesn't win by themselves Smiley.

But like it's been said, lets just see who's interested. Let us know, and we'll work something out in another thread if there is enough interest.

random could be more funny but it should be fair random like champion leagues draw...

after we get the list of player we can group into them to 2...

pro's and decent's then every team can build with one pro and one decent player...

Should be a vet/beginner tournie. That would be fun. Remember the one me and killer had? The armchair general duel?

The thread should be here somewhere? I think hicks played on killers team. It was quite hilarious really and popular with the audience.

The price incentive is really interesting.

Here's how I see it done:

One of the devs set up a base price pool, a small sum like 20€ plus MAUS ofc.

Every participant  team paypals 5€ to the above account. Walla, easily 100€ for winner. Some reward unit points for 2nd to 5th team.

Set it up like a fotball division where it is played out during time instead of having these stressful hours where everyone shows up.

Btw, doing it now during summer is ideal. If people dont have time enough to follow two days worth of event during what is globally "vacation" time, its their fault for having busy lifes.

I already approached some of the dev team about a tournament a while ago.

I can't tell you publicly what the reply was, but you can pm me if you want to know.

I also think you should actually ask the dev team about these kind of things to make sure they are feasible before throwing them up to garner interest in something that may not even happen.

The answer is

Give me my reward from coming first in last tourney before starting a new tourney.

I'm not asking the devs for anything at all.
Literally nothing is what I need from them.

I just ask their permission to let me use their forums to organise a tournament that will benefit the majority of the community, and create a sense of competition that has long since been abandoned from this mod. It'd be nice to have something actually happening rather than being in this state of limbo before a warmap is released.

Dark, I haven't discussed the money thing with EIRR, I'd be organising the tournament with a little help from others, I just ask that in return for participating in some quality even games, we all contribute a tiny portion of money to the game that we so love and enjoy playing. I've logged up hundreds of hours on EIRR and haven't had to pay for it, but I feel I should! It's just a thought, i'd hate to exclude someone from playing because they don't have access to a paypal, and i'd hate to some players to pay whilst others don't.. it's a conundrum, but it's stuff i'm willing to work on if there's enough community interest.

Without players doing SOMETHING to make them commit to the decision to show up and be motivated for errors, waiting and so on there's zero incentive for "proper conduct". TBH Spinn if they are unwilling to use any of the funds (which seem to usually be well above 100% goal every month) you should just set up a paypal yourself and have people pay in to a pool. Its been shown time and time again that EIRR players are untrustable when it comes to showing up for pre-planned events, even a symbolic sum of money mitigates that because it makes the event somewhat exciting.
