I think it still gives a rough idea of how the game performs, I'm not inclined to even bother with a game that gets rated 40 - 50 on average. A 60 - 70 game can still end up being pretty awesome, and an 80 - 90 game can be a considerable disappointment, but 40 is plain terrible.

Some of my favourite games rate poorly, and some games are extremely overrated (n.b. Dragon Age 2, Shadows of the Damned etc)

Silent Hill 4 rated 67 but it was my favourite out of the whole series. Critics slammed it for unforgiving gameplay and reused areas, yet critics rated Demons Souls positively for unforgiving gameplay and reused areas! http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/demons-souls

Another thing:
Silent Hill 2, referred to as the standout in the series and the benchmark for horror games, it rated appropriately at 89 for playstation 2 (http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-2/silent-hill-2). The only bad reviews were nostalgia reviews (1 iz betta!!! dun make a new one lolz!).

Silent Hill 2 was ported to PC, but given better Anti-Aliasing capabilities, support for hi-res (1600x1050, anyone?) and a multitude of better graphical and sound options as well as gamepad support, and check out the reviews:

Not really, some of my favourite games have rated 40 due to initial bugs or difficulty or even because the reviewer doesn't like that type of game.

Best example i can think of myself for a poorly rated game is Lost Planet 2, its amazingly fun but got low rating due to 'difficulty' level. (they didn't like that if they got hit by a missle and knocked off a moving train it was GG, even though said missles were fairly easy to doge) Or on the flip side, GTA 4 a game so awesome it got a 10 out of 10, somehow it was a game that rivaled Zelda

I don't get the new GTA's, They're not fun imo =\. Story is on the shit side too. I think people play it just because it's 'bro', like everyone's obsession with CoD.

what! the newer gtas were amazing! my friend and i picked up the first one that was in third person when we were in high school, i cant count how many nights we stayed up until like 6 in the morning playing it, just blowing shit up, the sand box game play was totally innovative!

anyways i saw this trapped dead game the other day, i might get it if someone on here gets it and raves about how good it is.
