I think a $1 Million tournament is kinda premature considering the only people playing are invited testers.
People are also claiming that DotA 2 will be the end of HoN and LoL, it certainly will pull players from both games but I think it will only dilute the communities of those games. I only view it's release as a bad thing for an already struggling genre. People are going to complain about exactly the same things that they already complain about with HoN and LoL.
Then you'll have those who want an exact replica of DotA with better graphics, then you'll have those who want them to improve it. It's gonna be just as clusterfucked as everything else.

It's a MOBA game, meaning Multiplayer Oriented Battle Arena or something like that. It's essentially a 3rd person action game with RPG mechanics. The goal of the game is to slowly go from your base and destroy the enemy's base, killing players and levelling up along the way. The genre has the potential for fun, but expect the massive amount of douchebags and jerks that pervade other games in the same genre.

I'm curious where you're getting your numbers or what you consider small. I remember reading a while back that DotA itself still has the largest player base of the genre, much larger than LoL and HoN combined and definitely not small. Then again, given that DotA playerbase is divided into at least 10 different platforms, its hard to get even rough estimates. |

DotA's playerbase was around 15 millions on 2010... for reference WoW's playerbase was 12 millions back on 2008.
