This has always bothered me, on one hand I always thought it was cool that planes could get shot down, it looked awesome, and was often totally hilarious when the plane crashed. But as I brought up in another post ( http://forums.europeinruins.com/index.php?topic=19764.0) planes role in EIRR are much different than in vcoh there for need a look at. How come these off maps are the only ones that can actually get killed and in turn do nothing? How is it fair that Axis have so many ways to shoot down Allied planes? I know it's not a huge part of game play, but I think it makes a difference. This makes me feel that if all other off maps (that aren't tied to officers) can do what they do with out fear of having something stop it, then why should plane based off maps be done this way, you can also see this thread ( http://forums.europeinruins.com/index.php?topic=20507.msg365206;topicseen#new) where it's being discussed. This also brings up the commonly discussed all off maps should have something on the map that can be killed to prevent their use, or something like howie off maps should have units that can be killed, that whole concept turns my opinion around. If ALL off maps were tied to units (say forward observer squad/units) then I believe planes being shot down should of course stay the way it is. Which I guess that in itself is possibly a whole other topic on it's own. Please if you vote, please throw in your 2 cents as well.

it makes it more strategic to kill the air defense until u can use recons
but how about the german sturzkampfbomber for a plane that flies aroiund for a certain time and shots at units and is going offmao afterwardds?

I've been saying all off-maps should have an on-map entity associated with them for a while now. A radio man/forward officer or something. That or they should all cost munitions to purchase instead of SPs.

ive had strafing runs shot down, its infuriating to say the least haha.
i agree with mal, i think there could be forward observer squads that come on when you want them, there's many ways they could be implemented, single units, squads, i def suggest making a separate thread about it (if you havent already)

When we implement the warmap and start the final balancing act in 0900 - we're gonna look at how *EVERY* buff should cost resources somehow.

From RGDs it seems that quads have much less accursey then all the other AA pieces, and there target tables are slightly worse vs planes.
But the best AA tool is wirble. It far surpasses all other AA weapons in anti air capabilities. A Wirblewind compared to the Quad in AA capabilties is like Abrams M1A2SEP vs T34. AKA not looking good for the quad.

I FOUND THE CULPRIT!
Another reason why quad is far worse in AA -
The 20mm AC and Wirblewind both have much superior criticals and they are -
Green - 5% chance to pwn plane 95% no crit Yellow - 5% chance to pwn plane 95% no crit Red - 50% chance to pwn plane
Now the Quad, that has considerably worse crits - Green - 1% chance to pwn plane 99% no crit Yellow- 1% chance to pwn plane 99% no crit Red - 10% chance to pwn plane 90% chance no crit
I assume the reasoning behind this is the quads way faster rate of fire, Buuuuut with its worse acc and worse target tables, coupled with the crap crits, no wonder it fails vs planes.

But you have to take into account the fact that quads cost much less than other AA options, like the Wirblewind. Buffing them too much would lead to any smart American player shutting down all plane-based strikes.

I never said you did.
Regardless, I can see where the crap criticals would come from, for the reasons above. Not really that important, though, considering EiR does not see as much plane action as a drawn-out battle of vCoH.

In fact, planes should be easier to shoot down. I'd love to see EIR get to a phase where taking out your enemy's AA became an actual priority ingame.
