BF3 is an arcade fps, don't expect anything else. It's basically CoD with vehicles.

The Jets from BF2 is the last thing I want.

I didn't mind the cumbersome Heavy bombers in 1942, they had a specialized role and rarely did your Turret gunners kill a Fighter.

The Jets/Helicopters is the rest of the Battlefield series dominate the field(as they should) but it makes for poor play. At least tell me there is a capable man packed AA weapon in the game.

I also much preferred the Artillery system in BF1942 to the new stuff.

i am such a pro heli pilot, i got a score of 6k ingame just from being a pilot and getting passenger kill assists, the only time i died is when it said the heli was used too much and it just blew up, max number of kills reached or somethin looooool. like a boss

lol you have no idea what you're talking about. CoD can't touch BF3. I'ts not just cod with vehicles, there's destructible terrain, buildings, multiple weapon and vehicle customizations, tons of unlocks and rewards, more than cod btw. It's so easy to max a cod account, I'm not even close to maxing my bc2 account and i love it like that, prestige is stupid. "oh look, reset everything so you can look like a boss" anybody can prestige 10, it just takes time but it makes you look pro and usually those guys are campers

while in bc2, if you see a guy is level 50+, he's a good team player, knows the maps, knows this, knows that. The guy is a leader on the battlefield rather than a guy who knows how to get a lot of kills.

anyway, rant over. dont ever compare the two....

Pony it's not.

Just because it's not like Red Orchestra, doesn't make it an arcade shooter, seriously.

i think with ur post u proved his point...

CoD with vehicles and some destructive able buildings without remaining debris and "no campers" ak run and gun like rambo
haven't played BF3 yet but heard rumors thats like a mixture of bc2 (which is exactly as described without destruct-able stuff) and latest medal of honor  Roll Eyes

if u want some other than CoD with vehicles u could try arma (but it has still bad netcode)

I never understand the term...camper in such games. If someone decides to be defencive and watch morons sprint from place A to place B and die because they don't look around carefully enough.

Oh right, CoD doesn't have defendable objectives- or does it? Afaik it doesn't.

I'll never understand the modern FPSes. So much ADHD shit for my taste.

CoD has defensive positions.(Any FPS does) but the type of position varies from FPS to FPS.

You can be more static in the BF series(someone will find you eventually)

Where as in CoD/CS defenses are certainly more elastic.

There are too many terms in FPS games to take offense to them. Camping, noob, spawn camper, rocket whore, Powerup whore.

Typically sitting somewhere and sniping doesn't win you a match and thats why people shit on it. It's perfectly legit for killing people but unless you're being aggressive you won't win any Search & Destroy or Control Point game modes. It's just that alot of games can't score abstract concepts and are limited to things like Kills, Deaths, Objectives and Assists. You don't get points for delaying a capture or diverting half the team to come clear out your building. Heck even in Space Marine as the Assault class I get alot of kills but I win more rounds by jumping in and out of combat and delaying people from running to the next capture point.

Alot of the blame falls in with game developers though. They still view things as singular objectives. Capture objective A. Hold this Victory point. WHen it really should be the terrain and features around the point that make it worth holding.

There are a few good examples of Terrain being the key factor in some vCoH maps. Sure you need the VP's to win but holding that VP might be easier if you push past it by 1 screen rather then try and hold the point directly.
This is also noticeable on some EiR maps. Towns are great for defending and fields are good for attacking. We still have too many non-flank maps(Duck or Die...) but even then most of the recent additions view sectoring as perfectly symmetrical. WHile Balance is a must from one half to another, sectoring can be different within those limits. Intersections are more strategically important. Rail lines and stations, Bridges, etc. Making those types of areas worth more sectors then some large ass field imparts a hidden importance on those locations

A hated camper is a lone wolf, nobody wants that on their team especially in a game that's team oriented.

That's why my favorite thing the world for FPS is class limitation. Since I first started playing FPS online with RTCW, my favorite servers were those that limited special classes, such as sniper, machine gunner, and flamethrower. That's why RO is so great, although it does suck to get a noob on something important like some kind of AT class or sniper.

Also I don't know much about the CoD series (at least since MW came out) or BC series, but I know BF2 is such a far cry from CoD.

Im going to assume BF3 has a lot of the same features. First off squad and spawning on your SL. That alone makes a huge difference. Also it takes team work to capture points, in fact the whole BF system of capturing points separates it from CoD. AFAIK CoD has what, HQ mode, variations of death match, and S&D and that's pretty much it.

yeah but thats exactly what an arcade casual fps describes...being almost as far as possible away from a real live situation

well games are generally still far away from reallife but these "no camper" run and gun casual shooters like CoD and BF:BC2 are it even more

u have not more than one life in reallife and no one will run around with an assault gun shooting from the hip without any battlefield awareness and cover

but thats how these complete arcade fps like bc2 and cod are played

may be fun if u like it but it is exactly described by arcade casual shooter

so in reallife u need to call every soldier a fucking camper

No one likes dying in real life.

In BC2 and CoD you take a round to the chest and find cover. In life you take a round to the chest and spend the next 4 months jumping from hospitals to therapy to divorce.

what's a console game, MW3 or BF3? cuz i could swear that consoles can't handle dedicated servers, 64 playesr or mod tools.

the devs for bf3 said that its PC first and the pc version is made for the PC, not a port.

I've played the battlefield series since BF1942 launch day. This ranks up there for huge disappointments (SPORE) so far. I really hope the final product works much better..

Game play is awesome, and I really think they nailed it with this one. There are a few things I don't like, for instance the server internet browser. It also has some bugs but what game doesn't, i'm sure they'll be fixed soon. I can see myself play this for hours on end not even realizing it and that is the kind of experience I'm looking for. I haven't had this type of feeling since battlefield 2 and cod 4. I would say certain elements are call of dutyish but it's definitely a team game. You have to move from cover to cover, or you'll be dead real quick. So far I like what they did with it and I haven't even got to the vehicle play yet. This game will be a real winner and I'm happy to put it into my collection of awesome first person shooters.

What kind of gameplay elements/speed of action do you like about it?  And is it true about a rumour that vehicles have more of a damage by location mechanism to it?

I was a BIG fan of BF1942, and I enjoyed BF2 even more (even though I prefered the time-setting of WW2).  How does it compare to those two?  Additions/Subtractions to gameplay wise?

Excellent, this is my gamestyle to a tee.

I used to rank 3rd in the Q3 NZ competitions, not that I prefer gamey over realism (Operation Flashpoint + Arma are my fav FPS tbh, but not for a quick game).

I used to run as a recon in BF:BC2 with a shotgun (extended rounds, 12 shots baby!) and the enemy spotter grenade (whatever that was called).  Id always ALWAYS get top score - from kills + caps every round.

If I was teamed with a medic + support, I was unstoppable.

That idea would make an EXCELLENT gametype.

Several mini-capture points around the main cap point which people fight over instead of just one point.

Would make flanking etc a viable option, and create scenarios where youd need to hold points AND capture points at the same time in a small(ish) area to succeed.

Think of:

              X

           X     X

      X       o       X
           X     X

              X

Where holding a majority of say 5/8 begins a cap.   Would make it interesting.

I believe the game is moddable Wink  And that would be a simple mod.

or do u like Project reality and make it so u can't capture another point unless you capture the one before it. Rush mode is like this, which is really fun but yeah, it sound spretty cool
