there is an advantage to taking someone out at night without making sound.

and you don't think gutting someone in the chest with a spear is gonna make a noise?

Maybe, but slitting their throat properly won't. And once again Bayonets were generally ineffective, soldiers knew that

I could see melee working well but not in a mod. It's something that you can hope is a feature in CoH 2 and is done properly. Especially if the game takes place on the eastern front.

A pacific mod would have to have melee.

The japs should have bayonets on all their regular inf.

Swords on elite infantry.

Katanas on the sides of tanks, and bayonet slots so the crew can bayonet from inside the tank.

And finally a low strafing run with aircraft, with katanas and bayonets attached to them. They would swoop down and bring fury and annihilation to the enemy!

Also a bayonet upgrade on the bayonet, attaching a bayonet on the bayonet for double killing power and increased range.

Maybe something that shoots bayonets? Bayonet gun go!

And no, bayonets are not quiet at all, and involve quite a lot of yelling. Knives on the other hand can be used close in just as well.

The officer is considerably better than a riflemen squad at carrying weapons. Officers have good accuracy so they will hit most targets.

Also brn, hand-to-hand combat was used alot more in WW2 then you make out.  Its just not as widely represented, and often glossed over due to the uglier aspects of it, plus there is an advantage to taking someone out at night without making sound.

Hand to Hand combat still makes up less then a percentage point of received wounds in that war or incidences in combat.

Also, taking someone out quietly at night is not as easy as movies make it out to be.

If they are in a standing position there is often a Thud, the sound of fighting(a struggle). Heck even with a Knife and the Hollywood method of slicing a throat still produces a loud gurgling sound for several minutes. The best method for a quick death on a Soldier in a Helmet is to snap his neck but even that requires a quick standing to fall positions and the sound of the break maps a twig sound.

Even the 'Knife in the kidney and mix it like soup' method lets noise escape from the victim.

Silencers aren't silent.

The best bet is still to just kill a person using normal methods and then use speed and aggression to complete whatever required you to be quiet.

Work related knowledge.

Never had to use but nice to practice.

Speaking of Practice. You can practice eye gouging as realistically as possible(without gouging an Eye) by having your practice partner hold an orange to his eye and scream when you break the surface of it with your thumb.

One preferred method is covering their mouth and stabbing the kidneys. Quick bleed out, no gurgling. Just need to keep them quite for a few seconds with your hand.

Throat cuts can be effective, but you literally need to do it with enough force to nearly sever the head for them to stay quiet.

Realistically, anyone trying for silent kills is going to be equipped for it. Especially in this day and age the only people taking out sentries quietly are SF.

Ghurkas in ww1 would sneak across nomansland in the middle of the night and stab everyone they could find in the enemy trenches, then go back.
