Ventrillo is down.

Unfortunately there has not been enough donations to keep it running. In fact, there has not been enough donations consistently to keep our Servers and Ventrillo running.

Fact: Tank130 has been financing most of the expense to keep the servers and Vent running. For those of you who like to make dumbass comments about Tank130 buying his way onto the Dev team, feel free to say thank you now  Wink

There has been talk about using Team Speak instead of Ventrillo. I will be purchasing a new vent/Team Speak server for EiR:R and want some input in regards to what system would be best for our community. The cost difference between the two of them is only 2.55 USD per month, so that will not be how we make the decision.

I am looking for people to post the advantages and disadvantages of one over the other.

I do not have the time or patience to wade through a bunch of bullshit posts. Therefore, I would appreciate your responses in the following format.

The questions we need answers to are:
What are the advantages of switching from Vent to TS?
What are the disadvantages of switching from Vent to TS?

Example response:

Disadvantage - we will be asking all of our player base to switch to a new system.

Advantages - I am not really aware of any, so please enlighten me

NOTE: if your response is not in this format or really damn close, I will just delete the response.

Unless TS has had a major overhaul in the past year or so, Ventrilo is of a higher quality.

If TS can now contend with Ventrilo's audio quality, I recommend going with the best quality to slots ratio for the amount your willing to pay.

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

I haven't used it but there is also mumble which is an open source voip program. I also have been reading that mumble has lower latency rates then vent and team speak. From what I have been reading, team speak is poo poo compared to vent and mumble. Then again some people love team speak, I think it just comes down to preference really. If your are looking for something low cost go mumble, if not just keep vent.

You don't need to email them...I've made a post about team speak before.

Non-Profit Organizations
If you host a TeamSpeak server strictly for non-profit AND you are not a commercial entity then you will not be subject to licensing fees. You must not exceed a total of 1000 slots on a maximum of 10 TeamSpeak servers within your organization. TeamSpeak servers are defined as ANY server upon which a connection is allowed - be it virtual or physical.

Examples of non-profit entities:
An individual hosting a single TeamSpeak server configured to allow up to 100 slots for their online gaming clan for non-profit.

No offense Computer, but smart business decisions are made with accurate information and research.

This thread: http://forums.europeinruins.com/index.php?topic=22734.msg399280#msg399280
clearly shows you do not your ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to research and information

Don't get me wrong, I truly appreciate your offer to help, but I will wait until we get an official response from Team Speak.

Edit: BTW, you may be 100% correct. But I want to hear it directly from them. I am sure you understand.

Reading a FAQ and making an investment are two really different things.

Ok computer, you are done here.

Take it to PM if you have nothing more to add to the advantages / disadvantages list.

Thanks

No need to lash out at computer Tank, it was one bad investing tip. Even with all the info in the world investing can and does go south. Anyone who did invest though is likely to see THQ's stocks increase next year if they stick to their plans for focusing on COH and DOW.

As it is Teamspeaks quality is often a little bit less then ventrilo (although TS3 is alot better then TS2) but that tradeoff comes due to the price difference

The biggest downside I can see is for the people that had a hard time getting and setting up Vent. TS is more of a pain in the ass ( I have and use both).

One of the requirements of using a not for profit Team Speak: From their official FAQ forum.

Quote
You cannot advertise for any sort of profit OR for any commercial entity at all on your website. In addition, and due to abuse, we also don't allow the use of PayPal buttons anywhere on your site.

We use paypal for donations to keep the server up and running. This may pose a problem.

Teamspeak has way more options and is a bit more complicated. However once you get used to it its just another program equal to ventrilo. If its cheaper to do so, you should Tank

Didnt wanna filthy the thread with it but seriously there has been so many months with spillover % of donations yet nothing is saved up for continual use?

CoH2, see you there (it will be insane)

Team speak is handy in the sense that it allows for web syntax link stuff...All you need to do is install the program and click a link...

Example..

You guys haven't even looked at mumble yet? I think we should talk to 8th rifle and malgoroth as they have used mumble before. I just think we should look at all options before making a decision.
