All the X-Com games for 3$ right now. Its a steam code.

http://www.amazon.com/X-COM-Collection-Online-Game-Code/dp/B00846E6X4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341883254&sr=8-2&keywords=xcom

Probably going to be 3$ on steam itself when summer sale starts.

Pre-ordered my Special Edition yesterday for $99 NZD, $10 more expensive than standard. Not a bad price tbh, considering other games are usually waaaaay more expensive.  I shall be waiting outside my local EB games store at half 8 in the morning.... Face pressed up against the glass doors, misting up the windows.

Playing it on Classic Ironman.

13 Brave men and women have died in the line of service (10 of them recruits... Go figure).

I'm actually doing a whole lot better than Niko, much to his amusing despair. I'm about 5-6 months in and only lost two countries so far. I've also only had to pull out of one mission but that one went *Seriously* fubar. Like, 3 Thin Men jumping your half dead squad (3 men left at that point) at point blank range on a reload turn, fubar.

Thoroughly enjoying it, I look forward to continuing with it in the morning.

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

Classic is the Normal difficulty.

The highest setting i some serious % penalties in combat I think. i did the first mission on Impossible(whatever the highest is)  with no losses by being methodical.

2nd mission in and it's a full wipe.

The heavily restricted some of the base management and other stuff compared to UFO defense. I still love the game and it's a really good modernization of the original.

I expect some intrepid modders will remake the original in it's entirety.

First game of the day, I lose my two best medics and my best Sniper along with two Corporals.

8 Mutons from fucking nowhere in perfect flanking positions. The last man of the squad had to GTFO before he died too.

It's got to the point where I've got to do a specific mission... Or I lose 4 countries at once.

I've lost two already so it wouldn't end the game, but it'd most certainly seal my fate.

Go go half baked squad on an important mission!

BTW, the SHIV is a lovely piece of kit if you get the Alloy SHIV and the laser.

EDIT:

Oh man, that went nothing short of terrible. All squad members dead, a SHIV lost and 3 withdrawals to show for it. Wondering if I can pull this back somehow...

Either way, it looks like I'm gonna have to use SHIV's in place of experienced troops now lol.

Bitch please, I had to take out a squad of 5 rookies and 1 squaddie specced as Sniper.

Scarily enough, 4 of them came back alive. They can almost be effective if you wrap them up in enough equipment lol.

Oh, and it DID take off the 4. Only 2 countries left until It's over. Time to be a miracle man.

EDIT:

I was about to be finished. 2 Countries in the red and 1 day until the report so I attempted the impossible and tried the mission. My men died, and died with valour they did. I had 1 Sniper amass a total of 5 kills of varying strength enemies by himself after the rest of the squad was dead... It ended with only one country leaving the project, like they recognised his bad-assery.

One month left to pull myself out of it with no veteran soldiers left, no damned ice-cream. Living it on the edge now lol.

So I'm assuming that this game is both a good modern successor to the first and a decently challenging strategy/tactics game?
