Boycott EA?
«
on:

Has anyone thought of doing this one? I mean really not buying any of their products old or new? I guess everyone knows how EA has acted throughout its career as a big Game industry

Because a forum post should be like a woman's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

They ain't really worse than any of the other big ones, they just get more attention.

Sure you can, one person alone can do so much but if there is a large community (we're talking about a large consumer force) then it will make a difference. Word boycott should be feared...nowadays it has kinda lost its value.

This reminds me on the Call Of Duty community which wanted to refuse the new DLCs because it was announced that they are going to recycle some old maps from a previous version and just import it to the new one.
In the end everybody except a few bought this.
They have enough customers, they can give a shit about a few guys who can't live with ther philosophy. (That's the bad part of this story)

I haven't heard of EA doing anything retarded lately, but there were a few times in the past where I thought a real boycott was going to happen, never did.

Well, the reason I would consider boycotting EA is the lower quality generic games they come out with sometimes like Crisis 2, Last MoH, ect. And the fact that they ruined one of my most favorite childhood companies. RIP Westwood. (C&C generals was pretty though)
But they do come out with some fun games like BF3, even though it was a bit borked in the beggening, and you also need origin which is epic fail. Oh and that you also have to use that piece of shit web browser to find games.
Other than that yeah, they do come out with coolbro stuff. Like ME3 until the end. That was a pretty shitty ending.

While EA has done things that deserve repercussions (butchering C&C for one), a boycott wouldn't be all that effective simply due to the numbers issue. For example, look at how many people buy yearly sports games. Very little to nothing changes in between titles in terms of gameplay mechanics. A simple update to rosters would effectively cripple that entire genre but people seem to be adamant about getting every single new release. The casual gamer could care less about the business practices and general game design, as seen by the Wii. Sure, the Wii has sold the most consoles but I have never met a single person that uses their Wii on a consistent basis (save for SSBB mods). Look at the 3DS, there aren't any games on it except for ports but they've sold quite a few already. Nintendo, one of the giants of gaming, has resorted to relying on gimmicks in order to secure profits and they've been doing so successfully. Sure, you can try to boycott EA but the masses could care less at this point and will continue to keep them afloat. To boycott at this point, it seems to be a matter of personal principles.

If you really wantto start a boycott, think bigger. A boycott on this site, even if it involved everyone who ever frequented this site, would probably be equivalent to attempting to wound EA with a cotton swab. It won't accomplish anything. On the other hand, you'll feel good about yourself for supposedly attempting to make a difference, so go ahead.

As much as you may not like them, they aren't doing anything significantly different than any other major corporation.
A boycott, though admirable, would accomplish little. Your best bet is to support third party developers through services like steam.

The whole idea of this thread is not to start a boycott out in here, but rather, a question from all of you. Have you ever thought of boycotting EA?

I have been boycotting EA for some time now. Piracy is your friend lads, so buckle up and become a buccaneer on the high seas of the internet arr!
Anyhow the argument "It wont make any difference so I'm not doing it" doesn't really hold any water. What you should be arguing about is whether or not they should be boycotted in the first place. If you think they deserve it then you really ought to follow through and boycott it.

It's not even admirable. It is, at most, an act of self-ingratiation by attempting to convince yourself that you personally not buying games from a publisher will make some sort of difference, morally, ideologically or otherwise.

EA hasn't made anything in a long time that i really wanted, so i guess i have been technically boycotting them.
But instead of 'boycotting' anyone i believe your money is better served supporting indy games.
