You know what, why do I only ever hear the "Accidental shooting" stories from the US really? I mean, most countries have the police carry firearms, what makes the US ones so bloody trigger happy?
IMO, It makes sense for police officers to carry firearms, but I'm starting to think that the us has a rather high percentage of shitty police officers
Quote from: AmPM on August 22, 2012, 04:34:20 pm
Police don't carry SMGs....they can choose a shotgun or carbine. SWAT does carry SMGs...
And you can be damned sure that if I was working, and some maniac approached me violently, I would put them down as quickly and permanently as possible. Not risking my life based on the assumption that the crazy guy isn't actually going to harm me.
You know why they invented non lethal weapons? And before you give me the "Not a sure thing speech"... In an overwhelming majority of cases, they bloody are. Firearms should NEVER be employed against an unarmed people, if they are, it should be the last possible resort, not the first one.
If having to deal with an unarmed person puts you at a slight risk compared to shooting him? Tough fucking luck, IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE A LITTLE RISK DON'T SIGN UP AS A POLICE OFFICER.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for law enforcers for the most part, but you should be able to prioritize minimizing the risk to the people around you, if the greats concern of a police officer is their own safety no matter what, something is wrong. Not to mention that the police does have some physical standards right? What I'm saying is, between the stick and the pepperspray/taser, you should be able to take down an unarmed man.
tldr, Handgun is a last resort if all else fails, as far as I'm concerned it shouldn't even be an option when dealing with an unarmed man, unless posing a serious threat to own life... And fucking hell, unless its a sumo wrestler or a really big muscly dude, I'm not buying it.

The officer is considerably better than a riflemen squad at carrying weapons.
Officers have good accuracy so they will hit most targets.

Watched the clip again, seems its only pistols, but sounded like a submachinegun. And the guy was like 4 meters away lol and he was going in the other direction when they opened fire. Its like 6 police officers are incapable of hitting him in the leg or something.
I would link the video but I'm not sure if its allowed.

and please dont act like these dopey lil euro countries have better police forces, they don't have the same issues we have, so theres no way you can compare.
but we do have better police forces then you... not as corrupt, not as trigger happy not as violent and not as fucked up.... but then again we dont have so many fucked up people eating eatch other and stuff here.
so i guess it makes sense

USA, in contrast to pretty much every single country on earth, has more firearms than citizens.
Add to that highly liberal gun laws and a good dose of violent crime. No wonder the police are paranoid in a work environment like that.

Watched a clip yesterday that showed a guy (brain sickness) screaming at some police men ~6 standing around him. He was unarmed and was just doing some karate shizzle and police told him to lay down.
Then he goes 2 steps in their direction and the guys shoot with pistols and submachineguns and put 46 holes into him. I was like wtf america.
I saw the same video.
Except I was smart enough to realize he had a knife. You may ask, How did I know that?
Its called reading/watching the news. And you can somewhat see it in his hand depending on which video you look at.

LoL. A knife? So what. Shoot his leg or something. He was too far away to do shit. And stumbling in the other direction is hardly a threat.

You should watch the video.
It's painfully obvious to anyone that they didn't respond appropriately.

He had a knife, better that they shot him than he stabbed someone. He was probably a serial killer on the loose.

Yeah sure, might not stop a drugged up junkie that cant feel pain... But really, a couple of these would put any normal person down, even a very aggressive normal person.
He was probably a serial killer on the loose.
What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Oh right, he had a knife... SERIAL KILLER, FLAWLESS LOGIC!!!
