Hey just built a custom pc and im already having problems :p

so its all together now and i was getting ready for first time boot up and it turned on just fine but it only stayed on for a few seconds. I think my power supply is to small is there any way to make sure? or lessen it im running a 600W

660 ti video card some bs water cooling that came with the amd 8 core cpu and coolermaster 692 advanced. im pretty sure its the wattage.

check if all the cables are in properly on the MB etc.

I've had a similar problem but apparently one of my hard disks was just broken. like it was taking way too much power away.

Did you build it yourself?

Make sure everything is seated properly, and that the thermal paste is applied.

Double check the connections and make sure everything is plugged in properly, including your USB headers and such.

You want to get it to POST, unplug all drives, the video card, etc. Start it up with power, CPU and 1 RAM module.

See if it posts, if it does not, bad component, try other RAM modules one at a time, try a different PSU. Still no go, double check the processor, make sure no bent pins. If that is good, probably a bad MB.

Download HIRENS 15.2 and burn a disk or make a bootable USB. It's handy.

thermal paste cam pre applied with astatek water cooler that came with the amd 8 core.

pretty sure it is applied correctly.

everything looks like its in properly powerbuttons work fans work. the one thing i did notice its probably just me is that the water cooler is slower to start up then the other fans probably a 5-7 second delay.

Lights turn on everything seems to turn i hear a beep when it turns on like the motherboard is working. Fairly certain i got the motherboard hooked up correctly but not to sure. i mean i just kinda plugged everything that looks like it should go there

so i unplugged some stuff HD dvd drive anywho i tried testing deffirent cords and using deffirent items i thought wrong still the same problem. the only things to happen when i did change is it didnt start up at all or it started but no fans ran.

Should i just invest the extra 60$ intoa 700 750W power supply and hope that works>

I'm sure that the power supply is not the cause of the error. At boot-up phases the power-consumption of the system is a fraction compared to the consumption while running a game or other complex tasks. Normally the inrush-current of the components should not be high enough to start/enable
the protection-mechanism of the power supply.


Have you tried to boot start the system with dismounted RAM?
AMPM did a good What-You-Can-Do troubleshooting. Try his advices.

It isnt the video card

Nor RAM.

this narrows it down to either the cooling unit is bad and therefor it is shutting down to protect furhter damage.

Or power supply.

Try the stock cooler, it works well enough to cool for POST.

it was the stock cooler. it came with asatek cooling, thermal paste pre applied and all.

Look in the manul handbook of the motherboard to check what this beep-code means. Normally there should
be a table which explain several code sequences. If you don't have such a figure in your manual check
what kind of bios type you have (American Megatrends/Phoenix/Award..) and try to find a beep-code figure in the
internet.

If it makes a loud screeching sound like a dying walrus then something is wrong. That is what my motherboard sounded with my first homebuilt computer.

Turned out my graphics card needed 2 6-pin contacts instead of the ordinary 1, something that the PSU didn't have so I had to get a new one. Who knows, maybe this is what is wrong with yours too?

This thread is exactly why I shake my head when a bunch of gamers on an internet site say, "build your own comp, it's easy".

Everything is easy, any moron can do it, until something goes wrong......

I feel bad for you areo - you spent a bunch of money and made a lot of effort to build a comp, but now you have no backup support or anything. If you fuck something up and have to replace parts, any "perceived" saving you had are out the window.

Building your own comp is like building your own home. It's easy as hell and you can save some money doing it yourself..... if you know what you are doing!!!!

Guise. Just built my house from this simple step by step guide. It really works.

Moved in 2 mins ago. Am having problems with the lighting. Plumbing. Sewage. Heating.


Parts will tell you ow much power they require. A general rule is that newer things take more. The 1 place I don't skimp on when building a Comp is my PSU. I don't go overboard but I like to make sure I have enough wiggle room for spikes and the like.

Took me just over an hours to build and setup my current pc, but it wasn't my first. I've also used my previous system in the past to make sure all the components work individually before putting t together. It's exponentially harder to diagnose a problem with everything being new
