Sure:
Open the .tga file in GIMP.
Change the canvas size to be a square.
Center your image in the canvas.
Save and repackage the .sga
This is incorrect, or at least missing the crucial information deadbolt and I were trying to get across.
The canvas size must 768 x 768 as stated already:

If your map is also a square, then just center your image in the canvas as you have stated. (although I would suggest resizing your image to match if it does not do so already)
However - the point of the amendment post is, if your map is
rectangular, as most 3v3 and 4v4 maps are, you need to follow the directions as I have previously posted.
I may have made a mistake assuming a person with a square map would just adjust the size of their image to match the square canvas..........in fact, I think anyone with an IQ over 2 would have figured that out, but I guess you got it covered if they don't.....LOL
