Tig an 850W psu is nessicary for a decent graphics card.
while some cards may only need say 600W your forgetting the draw when under load at higher settings.
eg.
mate of mine had crosfired 2 ATI cards (4770's) from memory. now the manual basically stated he needed only 820W psu.
when under load (playing a game) the pc would often turn off due to lack of power.

upgraded to 1000w psu and never looked back.
