Rather than continue to hijack the BotB thread, lets discuss Fortress Europe mod here.  For those of you who don't know about it, you can try out the Alpha test of the Fortress Europe mod here: http://fortresseurope.europeinruins.com/download.html

As for my thoughts, there were several things I liked about the British implementation.  I really liked that the 17 pounder AT guns were mobile rather than emplacements and I liked that you could build bunker emplacements that you could fill with AT guns, mortars, snipers, etc.  Very neat.

The mod has a long way to go, but it has some interesting ideas!

Very fun mod, though it is a bit imbalanced at the moment. The balance isn't that bad. I would say it's better than vCoH but not as balanced as EiR. It has a long way to go in terms of development and polishing.

There's no real cap on how many units you can field untill the very ending where your resource flow just stops, because of this, people just end up with big blobs of certain or multiple troop types :/.

Defenetly this is way better solution than fixed emplacements...

this sturmhubataze (spelling) mod yea? i chatted with him on IRC about this a few times, tho i am yet to test it out, i think it sounds awesome.

About the blob thing, i thought you have a limited amount of "callins" of each platoon type?

AT guns in nor. bunkers? Most have for defence, like as t2/3?

AT guns in normal bunkers?! A must for defensive doctrine as a t2 or t3.

That was what he said.

what kolath means is simple.

they removed the emplacements from the british troops.  then they added the mortar pit as an empty emplacement.

Once built, ANYONE can go into teh emplacement with any unit as far as I can tell.   The units then can leave whenever they want.  FAR FAR better then any actual emplacement option i have heard of ...

17 pounders are BEASTS..

and ya the mod favors the british strongly, in its CURRENT version.

and yes cozmo you can 'spam' .. you have a limit of 9 infantry call squads but because they are larger size it is very easy to have all 9 survive constantly and just reinforce.  and once you get all of them or even 6 of them out, it is quite a blob.

I found the VP mode to be a very fast and dirty game, 20 mins on average.  Its funny, I like long eir games because of the way it plays, but this game is so fast and furious it does better on a shorter time frame.

Thanks for clarifying for me, Salan!  Though I don't think you can put AT guns in the empty emplacement.  At least not 17 pounders.

Essentially, the emplacement becomes like a british version of the german bunker except you can also put a mortar inside, which is awesome.  The only thing that needs to change is the ability to put more than one guy inside.  So like it says it has a capacity of 12 but a single sniper fills it.  Though having a sniper emplacement was pretty sweet!  Cheesy

I think it is an awesome way to do the emplacements!

I also like the idea of having spotters for artillery, though you can spam spotters and it is kind of ridiculous.

You have 500 pop and a very steady flow of resources, if you don't lose any units, and usually you won't (larger squad sizes), you'll end up with over 100 pop of units  Roll Eyes.
