Man playing diplomacy made me want to get into more of the fun conquest games, HOI is ok, but I still don't grasp it enough... So I dug out my copy of Civ 4, and dusted her off...

anyone play this thing online or with friends?   trying to find some good scenario's for it.. Beyond the sword had some varying WWII ones, trying to find the american civil war Smiley

IMO, the best Civ4 mod is Fall from Heaven 2, an original dark fantasy mod that adds a huge amount of content and makes for a rich and strategic game.  It has won a bunch of modding awards.  And was so polished that Firaxis included a FFH2 scenario with the Beyond the Sword expansion pack.  Info at the mod website: http://kael.civfanatics.net/About.shtml

More information available on their forums: http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=190

The current version requires the Beyond the Sword Expansion, but there are old versions that are compatible with vCiv4.

Beyond that, I enjoyed Rhys and Fall of Civilization.  I have yet to try out the WWII scenarios.

CivIV sucks, because the friend who likes it the most always takes 15 minutes for a turn... which is annoying as hell when I do my shit in 15 seconds.

So play simultaneous turns with a time limit of 2 minutes.

Let me try to summarize... You take the basic Civ gameplay of building cities, researching techs, improving land, and fighting with units.  Then you add magic, which is that certain units get abilities that are spells like casting a fireball that hurts everything on the tile or summoning a forest, which places a forest on the tile or casting various temporary buffs to your units.  Then take each faction that has very different gameplay mechanics.  E.g. the Calabim are vampires and their units gain XP and strength from consuming the population of your own cities.  Or the Loljasalfar (Wood Elves) can build farms and villages on forest tiles and get other bonuses in forests.  Finally, add in 6 powerful religions that each grant access to special units and spells.  And BOOM!  There is Fall from Heaven 2!

HOI2 is much better, and it's not Turnbased. Turnbased on multiplayer is usually horrible.
I'll teach you HOI sometime Salan, once you get the hang of it you'll simply LOVE it, trust me.

Civ 4 is a pretty decent game. The only problem I have is that I can't stand some of the multiplayer games. You really have to get your friends to play otherwise you'll always at least have one guy who goes AFK... on a turn based game.
