I'd make an educated guess and your computer is being overstressed from the heavy game. Or, maybe your memory is leaking or something.

Last upgrade? I don't think I've made any upgrades to my computer in it's 1-year history. I vote vid card.
I sent my video card (an Nvidia 8600 GT) in under warranty, and got a brand new one of the same type. No change. I also replaced my motherboard without success. I'm just wondering if anyone here on EIR has some computer expertice. |

You, sir. Are a moron. THAT IS A PC. It seems to me that no one has mentioned the possibility that maybe it's the monitor? See if you can borrow a monitor and test it out on your rig. That may end up being the problem. Good ideas so far: 1. Akra\Gamma- Power Supply 2. Me- Monitor 3. AmPm\Chefarzt- Vid Card (disproven) |

I was about to say that (the monitor). Roll back your drivers/upgrade to latest drivers. Uhh, powersupply is a good possibility too. This idea is kind of out there but you could try cleaning the inside of the computer, blowing out dust. OOOOOO I just thought of this, you say it happens after a "heavy game" what is the temperature inside the case and is the fan running correctly?

Monitor's been tested, it's fine...
But, rolling back my drivers (even though the problem didn't arise from updating) might just do it, I'll have to check that out when I get home.
But, please keep offering suggestions, just in case that doesn't work...

 But back on topic... you say this only occurs under "heavy gaming"? Does that mean it works fine when you are just surfing the net or using office? How long does it take to return to a normal state once you first get this issue? I vote that something is overheating (probably video card). Overheating would cause the problem to only occur under heavy system load. Also the power supply is another "only fails under load" possibility. I would install some temperature monitoring software like CoreTemp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ or similar program and see what happens when the system is under load. Report back on what your temps look like on idle and after you get the issue. Also try running Orthos: http://sp2004.fre3.com/download.htm to stress CPU/RAM to see if you get the issue. If yes, it could be a general heat issue or a CPU/RAM/PSU issue. If no, then it is probably a video or monitor issue. EDIT: Also, I'm moving this to the tech support forum. |

Heavy gaming is about 45 mins of any recent game (Bioshock, Railroads, COH, etc.) Only happens about 50% of the time. Could easily be overheating, I don't know. When I get home, I'll install that stuff you reccommended, on August 2nd (I'm working at camp until then). Thanks so much Kolath.
