Ok, i've been thinking about this a lot lately. I tend to like to get my ideas together before i start something like this. I'm making a map and i wanted your opinion. I made a rough draft of my ideas on ms paint so it'll look crappy. Basically, the red means no sectors. i've always found there's no reason to really have them at your spawn points, although i'm considering maybe just putting them at the road.

the green are trees and vegetation, the boxes are the sector layout, basically there's going to be one big sector on each side (maybe 2 med sized) 2 small ones on each side and one box in the middle of one sector that'll serve as an outer perimeter (may break it down). It's a lot like crossroads, except that the town wont be broken up in the middle. i will prolly put an abbey or a church in the middle as a main building.

There will also be building on the otuer perimetor as well as close to the starting sectors so that you'll have something to fall back to. The artillery will probably be somewhere towards the middle of the front sectors so you dont set up in the houses at the front but at the same time, you wont want to bother really going that far forward because from the houses at the beginning to the walls there's only vegetation.

so um, what do you think lol.

was thinking about calling it Town Fortress or maybe in German - Stadtfestung

So you're re-making Bastion?  Tongue

Spawn sectors MUST have sectors, FYI.

well i'm going to put something there, maybe a road sector and nah it's not bastion. lol you'll see, it's hard to put into words. i wanted something simple as my first project, something without much hills just spotted vegetation and houses you know? Maybe next time around i'll actually do something complecated

Sounds plausible.  Start storyboarding it in WB.  What size map is this going to be?

+Points for planning ahead of time.

It's going to be like RTC you know, it's going to be long so you have room to set up and room to fall back, 3 main areas to fight, 2 areas of which are "fall back" points, one major, 2 minor around the major

the thing is...i'm not sure what theme i want, destroyed village, happy town, war ravaged but still in-tact we'll see

Well I'm on my first map, and I've little experience and it looks really good. I bet the map won't be bad maybe not like Henry666's maps. The only thing to making really good maps is alot of time.

If you want proper criticism on a map you are working on I suggest taking screen-shots from the world builder in order to receive an accurate critique and what you can do to improve it.

That aside, it is always a good idea to plan ahead a rough layout of your map in whatever form you choose.  However, I personally, nor anyone else will be able to give you entirely accurate feedback on a map that has a 5 minute paint sketch to its name.

I am interested in seeing what you have to show.
