Unknown is right..and thats my point about bitching up.so what if a thread derails ? so what if we move down from subject to subject. Thats what we do over vent, thats what we do over pms.
Bottom line is unless its a reason of particularly hostile and vulgar talk theres no reason to lock threads. Which doesnt even have the chance  to happen. And when it does, why take down everyone with it, warn or ban the people responsible.
Then by all means be as strict as you possibly can.

You weren't around for a few months, we barely had moderation back then and no one fucking died, now did they?

I've closed 3 threads in the last 4 months. What's your point? Do you know who's locked the most threads? Salan. And most recently, it's been Kolath.
Biggest fucking lie of the week!!!

Why is there so much hostility, here?  I haven't seen anything worth getting worked up about so far.

Sometimes freedom of speech is like taking a shit, you're relieved you can get things off your chest Cheesy.
(Kudos if you can guess the series where a simular quote was made)

It's obvious that multiple individuals in the community are advocating a more liberal take on moderation, we all appreciate the experience Akr has at Relicnews and whatnot and it's not always said in the most pragmatic manner but that's what it comes down to Wink.

I think someone feels that their need for freedom of speech is greater then that of the rules of the forum.. thats all I'm seeing so far.

I haven't been locking many things lately at all.  I have locked some in the past, and I'd do it again, and will.. muhah..

I'll be damned if I am going to go through the rubbish people post to edit it into a legible post simply so they can stay active.  If you post against the rules it'll get locked, not edited.

rules are rules, I think we have kept to what was defined rather consistently.  If there is any actual argument then look at the rules themselves and not the people enforcing them.

Quote
Forum Guidelines

Post Coherently - The development teams would prefer to read posts that are well thought out and are easy to read when regarding issues in Europe in Ruins.

Don't Spam - Everyone by now should know what spam is; it's a near useless post with nothing relating to the thread. Spamming in threads will only result in the post being deleted.

Don't Flame - Flaming is the act of attacking another member of the community, this just isn't on. This is too small of a community to start witch hunts or force members out of the community.

Respect - Showing some respect for your fellow forum members and the entire Europe in Ruins development team isn't hard to do. Remember, you didn't pay any money to fldash or the rest of his team for this mod. It's all their free time and hard work; so show those guys some respect.

Thats four simple rules that anyone should be able to follow.

In all honesty, I rarely see any of these rules being broken. When flaming/disrespect occurs then posts could be deleted before a topic gets locked. Ultimately however these rules don't mention anything about going off-topic in general discussion (seriously, who cares?) or having debates (even if they get a little firey, as long as people don't start flaming)...

No one is silencing 'freedom' of speech here; Are you allowed to post pretty much anything you want? You sure are.

Going offtopic generally results in the thread being turned into a spam thread, that's usually when I'd lock it. If it's talking civil about something else, then that's fine to leave.

And quit the whole "This isn't Relicnews" thing because.... FUCKING DUH! If this was Relicnews half of you would be banned and suspended.

@ M4 Sherman : Who are you again? It seems you like changing your name every week. Hard to take someone seriously when they can't stay with the one account.

QFT.

Seriously, chill out, guys.  We don't lock that many threads and most that we do are for spam, heading into flame territory, etc.

Welcome to an internet forum.  You have no right to free speech.  This is not a democracy.  It is a benign dictatorship where the regents are acting in the stead of king fldash.  So drop this bullshit "free speech" argument.

If you want to have a nice conversation go right ahead.  No one is stopping you.  If you are sick of threads being locked, then read why they were locked and tell your compatriots not to post in ways that get threads locked.

I love how people in thse forums are so heedless of the Mod team. FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES, AND YOU WILL BE FINE. THIS IS COMMON SENSE.

Please stop making Kolath recite this every other week. It's starting to annoy even me, and I'm not even a mod!

This is some major BS.
Do you even notice why theres no serious discussions around these parts? Do you think were all juveniles waiting for you to moderate us :p
This is so ridiculous. A mod about WWII with no talks/debates about it.
And Fldash is gone, the community is all tha keeps this mod alive, do you think locking everything on the assumption this MAY turn into flame, this MAY turn into spam, or if its something you disaprove makes it more helps in any way ?

I dont think you see the picture. The only two times i remember people trying to make political discussions, you locked the threads just because a couple of fucktards started calling names on each other.
And there were MANY interesting well articulated and thought arguments all over.
Do you think the community will have the patience to start something like that again? We all know the outcome, its gonna be locked so why fuckin bother.
Since you all know internet better than us, and youre so god damn experts, you turned this into the mary poppins forums. Dont do this and dont do that. This is flame, this is spam, this derailed away and blah blah. Bu fuckin hu. What are we some kids or some girls you want to protect us with the whole father moderating figure.

(And btw dont take this personal, i have nothing against you, its the situation im against)

I know im being ironic but its because im taking this thing as  serious as some of you think. Im not gonna cry cause these forums suck. But they suck, and imo you have a lot to do with it.

Haha..i remember once Akranadas locked a thread because the creator used the word Nazi or something..i mean FFS

Most threads deserved to be locked when they are.  But stuff like this:

http://forums.europeinruins.com/index.php/topic,6223.0.html

That does seem to be locked quite quickly.  There wasn't anything offensive or even remotely aggressive posted yet.  That said, I believe this is a case of the few ruining it for the many.  Some people need to learn to not be complete and total morons (image spamming, idiotic and pointless threads, etc) then perhaps we might be able to have an intelligent conversation on here.

Eh, this thread hasn't gotten too out of hand yet.

@ Armandillo, where are you getting all of this mock outrage, Mr. 53 posts and joined 4 months ago?  Your opinion on the matter of locking has been duly noted.  We are not going to change anything.  If you fail to see that most threads are not locked, it is your problem.  The policy still stands:

If you have a problem with a SPECIFIC moderator action, send a private message to Me, Salan, and Akranadas and we will discuss it with you.

A mod about WWII with no talks/debates about it.

I dont think you see the picture.

This is a mod, not a documentary about WWII nor discussion forum... There are special WWII Discussion forums made for people like you.

For Example:
http://www.historyforums.com/history/viewforum.php?f=8
http://www.ww2incolor.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=43
http://www.amazon.com/tag/world%20war%20ii/forum

Go debat/discuss, good luck  bye bye.

This Forum is specially made for the Mod, isnt it? -right.

Shouldn't tell people to piss off to a different forum as in all honesty there's nothing else keeping people on this forum atm, the actual game related discussions are pointless and nearly non-existant. The general discussion forum was created for all purposes, this includes WW2/political/whateverblablabla discussions people want to have as long as they can keep it civil, intelligent and coherent.

Anyway, what stumpster said. Punish the individuals (by f.e removing their posts), not the group.

I don't see why you need to be so negative towards armadillo, he has an opinion like everyone else and last time I checked post count doesn't affect your reputation or credibility. If it did, I'd be fucking king of this forum Wink.
