Indeed they did. In the latter part of the Empire, in like 380. The Western Roman Empire collapsed less than a hundred years after that, but at its height, and for a majority of its life-span, it was pagan.

i have about a million plans for tattoos myself. but when people over do piercings like that girl EIRRMOD mentioned, good lord, that is just insane.

Right now for tattoos i have calvin and hobbes dancing near a record player on my inner arm, and i have a shark (its kind of like my family crest) on my upper shoulder that my mom and dad both have. i plan on getting a hawaiian scene around the shark, and beneath that im getting a fire tiger (my Chinese zodiac symbol) im both hawaiian and chinese among all the other things i am (im a mutt). im getting hearts on the bottom of my wrists that i designed, i want to get sailor jerry flash somewhere on me, jeez i could go on.

I fully agree, in a sense as long as you get your tattoo for a good reason, you will never regret it, but what made tattoos special is gone right now. Lots of people have them. There is no more outlaw/criminal aspect to the tattoo which made it so cool. But from the words of a world famous tattoo artist, right now the world is so saturated with tattoos and tattoo artists, that the current generation of children, I'm talking babies right now, tattoos are going to be so common that it will be part of the establishment, and in rebellion as such we will see a generation of people that shy away from tattoos and piercings. Just as the past few generations flocked to tattoos and piercings as a way to get away from the current establishment.

I dont see that happening killer, it always been the sign of the working class and other "plebey" people who want to live outside of societies rules and order the tatto. Of curse now that the middle classes also are getting it in a general fear of the working classes stating to rumble and genereally pissed off at anyone who has money to spare on stuff except food, beer and fuel, its a way of getting out under the scrutenising eye of the public to get a tattoo or piercing cause in a way it sends a message like "hey im with stupid " or whatever.

But in a sense it will revert back i think, thou in some ways I can agree that the general taboo of getting a tattoo,  is fading and in the end it might not mark people the same way but there will always be classes and the higher ones will always look down on those who have percings and tattos. And by higher classes i do not include rock stars etc. I mean the industrial or other established families that run countries.

Taking bets on what Killer has a tattoo of..

Currently the segment looks like this:

47% - Captain Picard
33% - A pirate
20% - Ronald McDonald

Subsidiary bet relates to where and what situation he decided to take it:

25% - At dock during his time aboard the Vietnamese Pirate vessel "The Manmaid"
45% - Part of a voodo ritual to prevent early baldness
25% - Initiation ritual during his early childhood as a member of the violent street gang "The Nunchaku Nuns"

Thought i'd bring the thread back to life and finally get a recent pic other than that 2 year old one. These are from holiday like a few days ago.

Thread should be stickied imo.
