Just wondering if anyone here knows how to down grade Vista to XP or even something that makes Vista function like XP?
And if so how and what?

Downgrading you need a copy of XP, and a full set of drivers for your machine. Which if you bought it with Vista on it is a pain in the ass. Open it up, find out what each part is, go to the manufacturer and DL the drivers.

Whats the issue with Vista anyway?

Vista is a massive ram hog, over simplified everything basically fucking over experienced users, and seemed to have taken a lot of XP features out. other than that, its fine.

Just wait until windows 7 is released, the pre beta already works better than vista sp1 lol, keep xp sp3 for now.

lol, you know you can access all the same stuff you can in XP right? You just need to know what you are doing. As for a RAM hog, well it does. It also takes care of stacked information better and actually gives better performance in the use of said RAM.

All in all, it works fine for people that know how to use it, much like any other system.

Ah the problem I have with Vista is I hate it. I hate it protection systems I hate that it won't run Games properly I have issues with the way that Microsoft moved all the setting around so I can't easily LAN any more, But The biggest problem I have with it is the fat the family PC (Vista Computer I'm on now) Has spec pretty similar to that of my own XP machine But preform worse in all aspects bar start up and searching. (Both of which I don't care about.)

You said that all the XP setting are still there you have to Know what your doing to find them. Why did they hide the functionality? Why move add/remove from "Control Panel" To "My Computer" Why?

But thank you for the info. This machine Came with Vista and I've no XP installation CD. Also finding all the drivers would be a massive pain in the ass.

No it isn't well Ubuntu anyway that's the only one I gave a really good try. It sucked all kind of ass. For example the you can only play games on it if you have an Intel based processor, which I don't.

Seriously though If anyone has any tips on how to make my Vista experience more bearable it would be much appreciated.

Turn off the User Account Control which will stop vista asking if you want to open and close shit it makes a real difference on performance.

I have done this and it does help but for some reason microsoft decided to put something in that when you have UAC switched off you get a message telling you everytime you turn the compuer on or do some other things.

Utter bullshit. I've had vista since last June, and turned off UAC almost immediately. I also did this for a friend. Neither of us has ever had this happen to us.

And turn off vista Aero, too. Increased my performance by almost 20%.

Surprisingly, I do prefer Vista to XP, but this comes after months of tweaking with settings and crap in the Control Panel, and messing with drivers,a and a bunch of other annoying crap to get it to run properly.

The problem with Vista isn't Vista itself, its that Vista's default settings are so craptastic that even a moderately intelligent person will be driven insane by them.
