Why does off map artillary have absolutely no effect on units in buildings. They literally take no damage from my howitzer barrages.
It just destroys the building around the unit, but the MGs/volks/ whatever they may have in the building take next to no damage.
It's a waste of PP if i cant take out a stationary unit
If a player is just gonna camp out a shit ton of support weapons in buildings, then he should be subject to artillary off maps;If a player should forgo the micro of a support weapon, it deserves to be allowed to be blown to smitherines. I mean its already a slim chance that dropping off map on mobile troops will give casualties.
So what gives with the no damage to units in buildings? Is this a bug? intended change? thought we werent deviating from retail too much here.

It's exact same as in retail mate.
I've seen a squad take no damage from a direct hit V1 just by being in a building back in vCoH.

The offmap howitzer barrage functions the same way as all other offmap abilities, the only differing one is the v1 Rocket (When it normally kills the building thus eliminating the target)

scyn, comon man i just played a game vs. you, where you smokas and gamesguy railed my 2 noob friends.
Same situation happened that game too. Droped a howie offmap on a building and it did no damage to the unit inside.
edit- it was either that game or the game before...
In retail, when I drop a off map on a garrisoned building, the stuff inside dies. idk whats going on here, but ive noticed it for the past dozen games or so..
Judging from what ive seen thus far, id bet that a unit in a tiny shack wouldnt take any damage from an off map arty untill the entire shack came down.

I can assure you there's no vs_building difference on the offmaps. They come down at the target straight. For artillery to expel men from the building, the artillery penetrates the house usually killing a man or two, but not usually(there's a small chance) when it's fired on from the top, the mortar on the other hand is a different story.
It's like firing an onmap howitzer into a large church, there's a chance that the weapon team inside will take no damage. The bigger the building, the more chance of a 'miss' being rolled.

but i distinctly remember them being like small abbeville buildings, sometimes half wrecked. I even remember saying in chat something similar to "huh, 3 direct hits and no dead MG"
Im quite aware of the duribility and protective nature of large stone buildings, but i do not remember the last time a howitzer barrage offmap wounded a unit in a building in this mod, in any type of building.
And i mean, lets face it. who would catch it? infantry doctrine howitzer barrage is the only off map arty that would be feasible for dropping on a building to clear out the garrison.
Rocket arty is too rare, and precision arty is not enough to punch a way thorugh the building. No one uses firestorm, and V1s outright destroy the buildings.
Idk, I will do some testing tomarrow, and provide a replay if i find anything.

Artilery shells have a 0.1 accuracy modifier vs units in a building, as far as I remember. Take into account the splash damage accuracy modifiers, and you'll know what's going on

It's been like this both in EiR and vCoH since times forgotten, don't think it needs change - a house is a house, it takes the shells kinetic and explosive energy into it's walls, therefore saving the lives of the people within. Howitzer off-maps are to be used as a support to your attack, on a pak, on a mortar, on an HMG out of a building - not on top of a sturdy building and expecting it's guys to go out flying. Just imagine the guys in the house are in the wine cellar if it bothers you that much.

Also after using it Terminator Marines should spawn and bring me some booze after wiping the floor shortly followed by some handsome crackmanwhores.

turn down all artillery
one of my last games i starded first in (3v3) reinforcements mode and got 2 offmaps dropped and 2 bombing runs
that was in the first 5 minutes
later they had two 105 and a calliope

I don't think Europe in ruins is all about artillery. However what is wanted is some artillery I.e a Priest or Hummel in a 3v3 or a nebel, so it promotes the ability to attack in an attack/defend map and demotes digging in like some guys especially do (especially with AT guns these days being cloaked)
Artillery is overpowered in situations where teams have so much of them, which is bad but usually not the case. The offmaps can now start being led to problems with artillery spam, only for people that have the PPs though.
I'd like the health of most buildings to be done down more now, just so it's not the invincible corner of the map, and also i'd like most maps to end up "in ruins" by the end of the game. It would be awesome to see half the buildings in a town destroyed by the end by Tanks, Artillery and even AT guns, instead of damaging them at the start like in St. Come Du Mont, which was awesome regardless.

Artillery "I WIN" Button in every game. Its simple thing.
Calliope or 105 means always huge bunch of dead people and you can get them killed only by bumprushing them. Same with Hummel (well nebel...its not that hard to kill just counter battery immidiately once it fires and it goes kablooweh or then drop airborne ontop of it and it is dead. Same with 105 when having a luftwaffen PE partner) and with priest. Artillery will always be I WIN button in static games...bump rushing them is the only way to destroy Onmap artillery pieces.
Offmaps in other hand are a different case. Its all about dice rolls really. Sometimes it destroys everything within its range sometimes it doesn't. It usually 1 shoots a Mortar crew and ATG and MG crew when it leaves the building but other than that I don't know xD

Buildings give good protection. When you drop arty on it, it won't directly kill the infantry inside. But after just some hits (that actually hit) the building will collapse with the units inside.
That's how it has always been, even in vCoH.
But you are right, there are some situations where it will kill them. When the units are in the top floor

Guys seriously Arty is OP coz u cant retreat and get new guys on ur Hq.
Its about attrition which is made too easy by Artillerie if u use it right.
Thats basicly the reason why ill never have any arty pieces in my companies.
((Except stolen stuff of course)

off-map arty gets a dmg penalty vs units in buildings, like 10% accuracy and 50% damage, thats why it doesn't work. The only way it'll do any damage is when it crits the building, and the bigger the building, the lesser chance of a crit.
