DISCLAIMER: Despite the tone of this article, winning via "attrition" is possible... but not in the manner of trading "Positional Advantage" for "Units killed".

Players who claim that they won the game (often after having lost by a few seconds due to map cap) on attrition are being stupid. Map capping is an essential part of the game as well as attrition. If attrition was the sole objective of the game, players would have used different strategies and wouldn't "sacrifice" units needlessly.

The basic strategies for winning an EiRR Game is

1. Massacre your opponent
2. Outcap your opponent

Similarly in Chess, you can trade "Material" sacrificing units for "Positional Advantage" (greater map control). However, that is not to say that killing your opponent is not a bad strategy but massacring and out capping your opponent usually comes hand-in-hand. It is exceptionally rare where you kill your opponent without out-capping them.

Illustration of Aggressive Map Cap
Team A embarks on aggressive map capping and assaults against Team B.
Team A holds 65% - 70% of the map for 20 - 25 minutes but has only 30% of their company left.
Team B playing attritional, has 50% of their company left.

HOWEVER!

Because Team A has been holding majority of the map, they have more popcap, going anywhere from 3 or 5 or more popcap than the opponent. This presents a massive advantage obviously. Even if you have only 30% of your company left, being able to bring MORE guns to the table all at once, beats bringing less guns any time.

Even if your company is completely withered, you can completely destroy whatever the enemy has to bring because it is brought on in minute numbers. Your goal is to reach "critical mass" =D which I personally found to start at 30 popcap mark (about 10-15 mins in)

Is Aggressive warfare viable?

i. By constantly attacking (and capping), you keep the initiative in your favour, choosing when to fight and putting pressure on your opponent, forcing them to fight on your terms.

Most players in EiRR are more emotional than logical. Once you've crushed the initial call-in, they just keep sending units piecemeal to your force. If you disrupt their intended strategy sufficiently, their gameplay quickly falls apart.

Note: So don't make this mistake if this applies to you.

ii. You choose when to give ground, when to hold ground and where the most favourable fighting positions are (I'll illustrate this with a guide some other time on a map like "Church")

iii. Higher mapcap is always an advantage. If you maintained at least 70% of the map control, by the 25 min mark, you're almost guaranteed to shove your opponent off by the countdown timer. The popcap difference is too great for them to mount an efficient counter offensive.

Agreed. i had a game where i lost both persh my teammate was a total complete noob and we won cuz of a mega rifleblob capping everything, was so hilarious.

The beauty of eir is to be able to win by capping and not just by destroying. If u have more map control, dont needlessly push, just hold ur ground unless they have artillery

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

so true. keeping those little 1 man squads on the corner so you have 60% of the map, and moving them up when you get the chance works wonders. in eirr its very easy to forget about keeping territory, saying "oh ill recap that place in a minute" then forgetting about it til it sends your opponent into +2 pop.

Had a game with cloud and he actually showed us during the closing finals of the game how to win by capping. Was nerve racking!

man played a game where the axis hid in a large corner of the map b/c it was an 88 sight. A well defended 88 sight.  But of course they didnt expand and lost. One of the losers called it a cheap win. Ya and hiding isnt?

once i get an 88 up with good defense i get as aggressive as i can with my other pop, bad play on that defensive players part. 88 should be a reason to be super aggressive in one of two ways. allies pour everything they have to take it out, so you bring all your forces s to defend and right there you could win the game, or once you realize allies are scarred you cap past the 88 and get aggressive on the other sides with your team mates knowing you won't really get flanked.

That is winning by superior strategy. Outmaneouvre the enemy and cut off his supply to win, rather than take him on head on.

well,it's more interesting to fight, than  stuck last man somewhere in a corner and hope he wont be found.

ofcourse it's a valid strategy, but I like more when I win cuz I managed to beat my opponent in fight with better micro and tactic.

You can like whatever the hell you want - it's not relevant. If something works, it works - and you need to fight against it in ways that work.
