You didn't give it a chance me thinks, been playing since the first day of beta and it's an amazing game, the only people who complain so far are the ones who can't wrap their heads around the system so far.

I love how you can raid enemy supply lines and it directly translate to you winning the war effort, airpower is amazingly cool, with me backing up my friend Rebel (who now has a keen love for Russian firepower) when he says 'Shit, get that tank destroyer!' and two hawker-hurricanes come out of the sky and drop 2 500lbs bombs each and blow the unit away, allowing his infantry foot-sloggers to advance.

My best game tonight was a guy who clumped all his buildings together, nailed 3 of his unit production factories (including his AA) with a well-placed carpet bomb, proceeded to keep blowing them up as he rebuilt them no less than four times and somehow he managed to sneak some pershings out from the bombing and attack my front lines, almost breached my bunker network but some hurricanes came by and took one out and forced the other to retreat back to his base... sadly for him he didn't notice the skies were full of paratroopers at that time (radio silence!) and was destroyed by airborne commandoes with piats... ^^

Game is pretty in-depth, lots of unit variety and strategy, and every faction has a unique set of strengths and playstyle.  For example USA builds the fastest, Germans can upgrade and advance their units to more tiers than any other faction, Russians are slow and have crappy AA/Air power (roughly) but are all about brute strength, British are about their airborne support units, with the French (emplacement experts) and Italians (masters of speed wars) to come soon.  The new map they introduced today was most excellent in the new factions and the new map which has valleys, mountains, rivers, several major cities and inlets, with tons of forests and open-ground, a bit of everything!

Highly recommend to those who would like to see what WW2 is like from a company perspective, very detailed and pretty with excellent voice work (unique to all factions) and amazing details in sound and visuals (zoom in on US airborne fighting in woods and you will see muzzle flashes from the enemy in the trees with them, people shouting and the actual sounds of M1s and thompsons being fired).  This game is on my definite must have list already.

Heh, thanks Blitzen.  Yeah a lot of 'new' people online that are learning the game, luckily for most of us EIRR guys, we are the masters of RTS gameplay!

But what do you mean arcade-y?  I find the game gets the perfect mix of realism and fun.  King Tigers can take a shit loads of pounding, and while you will usually only field a very select few, unless they are attacked by multiple P47s for example, you'll rarely lose them totally and be able to pull them back for repairs, while US armor like Shermans tend to not survive a single shot from these beasts.  In a game with Computer and Kinote, I got lucky to nail one KT with 5 57mms and a pershing wailing on it, and used what little air support to panic/rout the other supporting King Tigers, and that was a long, drawn out affair.

Fights merely don't end in a 'few seconds' which can happen in COH when you just bum rush the guy and quickly use 3 tanks to rape a single squad of infantry, while death can come quickly to the cheaper units, a lot of fights are drawn out affairs where reinforcements can be moved to assist and relieve forces or troops reorganized to hit open flanks and make an opening.  I highly suggest trying the new map as its a much better map than Cauldron, which is a good 'deathmatch' type map but there's so little in the way of non-flat terrain or chokepoints or huge cities.  Also, the new factions also have an emphasis on different things (brits have really awesome emplacements and my gameplay style with them involves around creating forward firebases to support ground troops and air operations).
