Computer problems =(
«

My computer will randomly just totally freeze up, I don't know what really causes it, last night i was playing TF2 for like 40 minutes, no problems. today i try to play some EIRR and just freezes up (sorry smokaz, wittman, pq, gamesguy, and everyone) i thought i fixed the problem, my friend suggested i move the RAM around, no luck.
So I won't be playing EIRR til I get this figured out, I don't want to waste peoples time starting up a game with a potential to have it crash =( which sucks because i really want to play!!!!!!

I had that in tf2 and COH a couple weeks ago. Turns out my gpu was hitting 100+ degrees so I exchanged it for a new card that doesn't top 60 load and have had no freezes/crashes since.

Yeah, it sounds like your rig is overheating.
Open up the side panel and stick a 20" house fan pointing into your computer and see if it freezes again.

Yea, Crashed twice during eirr today, so I said fuck it. Took the ram out, called the store, they kept talking bout restocking fees... So I just drove there, yelled at them, and got the right ram, and 20 dollar refund.
And now... Holy shit is she running smooth... All four cores barely go over like 15% power unless I fire up a game or something. Though load times still seem longer, but that just might be from playing everything on highest, cuz once they load its all smooth sailing.

alright, ill turn all my fans on high and give it some more air. the thing is it crashes when im not even doing anything, like i can just be on aim.
but i left it up, and cooked and watched tv, and came back and it was still working fine. so i justh ave to figure out what's setting it off, and see if i can find out what parts are getting hot.
HAH! i just figured out, its my CPU, the fan isn't running right. now i know the problem, just have to figure out what's wrong with it.

Sounds like your fan is shorting out. Either that or you've had it for a really really long time and the bearings just need oiled. (did this to a slowing fan in my rig once, made it spin like brand new)

May not be the bearings, I had this problem once upon a time and it was because my fan was so chock full of crap it kept getting stuck.
Looked fine from above but once I took it off the amount of shit hidden beneath the housing was unbelievable.

CPU fans are really cheap, you can get a semi-decent one for under 20 bucks. Might be better to just buy a new one.

IMO, if the fan is having trouble turning, either get the gunk out of it, or oil it, and only replace it if all else fails. Put that $20 in your gas tank instead of buying a new fan.

I used 3 in 1 oil, but that was because i have an abundance of paintball guns lying around.
Try to flick it with your finger, if it doesnt rotate at least a few times, somethings wrong with its rotation.
I also just remembered that in my frontal HDD fan, there was a strand of my girlfriends hair tangled around the inner rotation rod thingy. Pulled it out and it circulated faster, and got rid of a little grinding sound. So yeah, pretty much anything small can get jammed into those fans.
If you want to oil it, remove the center sticker and the rubber cover under the sticker. Thats where the bearings are, just put a coupld drops of oil along the walls and hand spin it till it circulates well.

Not that I read any of the previous posts, but try taking the side panel off your computer and leaving it off. If anyone already suggested this, (tm) bitches.

Oh also I never mentioned, I never got any BSODs. It just freezes up, the mouse pointer will keep moving on the screen but that's about it. I cleaned the fan as best as I could and it seems to be working, but my computer still freezes up. I ordered a new fan already, since even if this one is working now, if it's having problems I may as well replace it.
if it was my RAM, video card, or power source acting up how would i know?
Also for now so i can do basic things on my computer i have the side panel off and a fan next to my computer, but do i want it blowing air in or blowing air out? also turned the heat down in our apt, not that it was ever any warmer than 65 anyways haha, friggen northern new york weather.

Keep the system really cool. download and run memtest86. That'll at least elimate one problem.
Oh, something else, open your computer up, turn it all off, and unplug power. Then unhook and replug in everything, sometimes a loose sata cable or something can cause errors, or loose ram.

I had an older rig that locked up from time to time. The cpu fan was fine, but turned out the heat sink on the fan was clogged with godzilla sized dust bunnies.
I took the fan and sinks off the processor and cleaned them up... pretty much just by blowing all the junk out... and she ran fine after that.
