I just came up with the following idea and would like to see what ya'll think Smiley

Pricing is a more powerful tools than one would think at first, they affect company composition and ultimately can thus change the gameplay dramatically. We've all experienced this in the past with certain balance changes left and right.

My question now is, what if we were to, for a weeks duration or more, intentionally and dramatically alter the price balance to provide for some interesting new metagame/gameplay shifts. Take this as an example: 'Infantry Mayhem' week, where due to weather conditions and difficult terrain, tanks are scarce. (With tank prices increased dramatically to reflect this).

Truth is of course, you would only feel the effects of this change when you have to repurchase your tanks after losing them, someone who doesn't lose his tanks could theoretically keep rolling them in. (Which does not necessarily create a balance issue) The fun thing would also be though that losing a tank would be much more devastating during the 'transition' period as they wouldn't be able to repurchase them for this week.

At the end of this period, prices would obviously be returned to normal.

I'm sure this could spark some new interest and keep people busy while we wait for the implementation of the warmap and more.

Regards

I think that it could be an interesting idea, but allowing people to keep thier curent company composion would be very, very annoying. For instance, reducing the number of tanks could be interesting, but for every player with a currently tank-heavy company, you are suddenly facing opponents without armor and without AT. This would obviously give a very lopsided battle.

I think the best option might be to make those events prevent players from playing if they are over the ressource limits without grandfathering units in.

And what do you do with the people who don't want to sell their tanks because they happen to be on the leaderboard? I would be pretty pissed to be pigeon-holed to using other companies just because I'd have to sell/dillute the experience off a 1000 exp firefly(if I had one at the present moment).

And it bit of a dickslap for the people that play armies that revolve round certain themes. Like I like my Volk Company, If there was a shortage of Inf, This is would mean I wouldn't be allowed to do what I find fun.
Its a nice idea, But in pratice, it could lead to some tempers and people leaving the mod for the week because the mod state is screwing over what the person finds fun. Tongue

You'd still have AT for this reason, part of the metagame of course.

How about instead of raising the tank prices something like the old (terror?) effect, where a random (tank/vehicle) callin gets bogged down and is unavailable for the match?

Yeah, you'd still have AT - that is true, Unknown.
However, if you are aware that everybody has taken lesser ammounts of AT(why have 4 paks when the enemy only has 1 sherman?) - you could roflstomp anyone if you just keep a tank company going as is till the later stage of the "event".

Problem is, that would require advanced coding, where as I'm just trying to keep things interesting with a minimum of resources available to me. (Pricing/Availability, those kind of simple things that can have big effects)

I don't know how far AMPM is in developing his campaign of course, that could be what we need right now but we definitely need something to bridge the current long wait for new features.

Other ideas are always welcome of course, anything to spice up things for a bit.

Any variation will be fun, don't nitpick too much guys :p

Just keep the special settings for a week or 2, not longer else it will penalise themed companies.

Oh, and get rid of oversupply or increase the limits if you do this. No point having infantry-heavy companies that are at -200 PP oversupply.

I agree, it would be interesting but it would seem like an aweful lot of work to do with the pools.

Like on my axis company I am oversupplied heavily in inf. and support weapons.

I dont know what I would do if vehicles suddenly would not be available in regular supply.

I would almost prefer doing this with munition fluctuations, just for a test. Decrease overall munitions costs for a week or so, or raise the cost on select weapons to simulate a shortage.

On a related note, when AMPMs campagin gets rolling, i think we should do this frequently.

Would you be as excited about this is if it wasn't just another way to remove vehicles from the mod?

We could do one where your advance has outpaced your supplies, meaning no support weapons and low munitions.

That would only really make sense when the warmap is in place though, otherwise you'd have to structure it by how many wins in a row somebody has, which I think is impossible.

It'd just be a temporarily shift towards heavy infantry/support weapons focus. It's nice to have a change in gameplay sometimes and it's definitely something we should experiment with once we have a warmap in.

We could already experiment with this now really.

what if its not price changes but pool changes? wait never mind...that's screw with peoples PP but that would be a way so that people with tank heavy companies would have to change when it changes.

Heres an entertaining thought.

Remove all pool restrictions for a week and see what happens.

I like it, but it requires a active development presence to manage it. Isnt the team pretty overworked already?
