put a American tank crew or worse yet, Infantry in a German tank and you see just as well how well they can operate it. They can't, they will most likely break the equipment trying to use it. Same thing with Germans going for American tank.
Ingame it'd look silly riflemen capping abandoned tanks and both sides had orders to break their machines if they had to abandon it. Only causes when tanks were TRUELY captured intact were when the crew paniced and fled from the vehicle in fear.

You think riflemen can operate a mortar or a howitzer for that matter? isn't that also stupid and unrealistic but is in there for gameplay reasons? the game is not about realism.

Yes, yes I do. especially Depening on the nation of origin. It's mandatory in some countries with smaller Armed Forces that everyone from a cook to a clerk to a soldier learns to operate everything at the lowest level. Beyond that, if shit hits the fan you'll figure it out.

Different kinds of artillery requires special training specific to that one. I VERY much doubt that riflemen were given that kind of training and if you are so sure that they were then please give a source for it, because quite frankly that sounds ridiculous. Just some basic training and any rifleman could operate both mortars and howitzers, really now?

I know theres a story about "Commando Kelly" (or something) I read it in "On Combat" I think. where the guy literally runs from window to window picking up everything from a Garand to a BAR to a Thompson to a Springfield and a Bazooka and then he evens gets down into the courtyard and starts loading and firing shells into a Church tower and then starts loading canister rounds at a nearby door way the germans are using. All while other guys are fucking around making Spaghetti.(no joke)
Granted he's not shooting far targets with precision but he is still shooting.
I've spent enough time hanging around Arty guys to know the workings of a Gun and I don't use Field artillery pieces in my job.
Are you going to operate it as well as someone who uses it day in and day out, no. But operate it you will. By and large the same general rules apply to small guns that apply to bigger guns. The ammo goes somewhere, it comes out somewhere, point that towards assholes and find the trigger.
Heck, most people I train have more issues loading an M203 then figuring out how a Field piece works.

Sach just like always you are arguing things you clearly have never done any research into. If you had any idea how simple a mortar was you would have your mind blown, although i would wonder if you would start arguing with the mortar and telling it that its not hard enough to use. (set charge level on mortar ie. how far it goes. drop mortar into tube. dont have your hand infront of tube.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qehUdr-d4AITS SO HARD!

Sure a mortar is easy to fire, and maybe a Howie isn't too hard to figure out. But shooting either with any kind of accuracy is a whole other story. Its not like any kind of gun where you just point and shoot.

Well actually the mortar is pretty point and shoot. It's straight forward. The howitzer is more complicated in the fact that it's range is greater and therefore it's margin for error.

My plan was that depending on who boarded the tank, it would operate in a limit capacity.
Engineers would be 90%, riflemen 75% and if you got a tank crew it would be 100%.
but coh 2 took my idea!

Point is with the mortar ull fire a test round and see where it lands, then adjust. With the howie, well, good luck Hawkeye.
